329.0. "Save a FileView?" by GIDDAY::KOTWAL (Ain't no flies of us - Mate!) Sun Mar 05 1989 23:26

    Using UWS 2.0

What I would like to do is save the changes to the FileView layout.

I selected "customize" then "file properties".
I then selected "Ascending" and "filename".
Click on the OK box, and all is well.

My problem is how to save it. If I go to "control" and "save as
startup view", it does not save. If I save as a new view - the
same thing. The next time I create a ue window, the files are
displayed in the old unsorted order.

Is there any way around this.

Also I notice that the VMS implementation has a LOT more functionality!
(Coming from a die-hard Ultrix person - this is quite an admission!)

For instance, there is no way (short of editing the .ue_profile"
file) to remove a created fileview. This is a real pain!

    Rashid.

This is not tied to RE: .0 of this note, but it is on the same subject, so
instead of creating a new note...

I must be missing something with the saving in FileView. I can't figure out
why the user would be able to save FileView parameters, to a specific name,
but then have not means of restoring them.

What is the purpose of Save View... if you cannot later call that view up from
FileView?

If you're talking about the VMS version (.0 was not), when you save a
view its name will appear on the Views menu. When you select an entry
from this menu, that view will be restored.
