317.0. "TAPE DRIVE PROBLEM WITH MKAxxx on VMS5.1-B" by JGO::MEHIGHEND (Hans Castien NMGV06::Castien @JGO) Tue Feb 28 1989 05:48

	Hi,

I've just installed VMS 5.1-B on my PVAX and I wanted to
	install DECWINDOWS.
This however causes a problem, since the SAVESETS of DECW are
on a TK50 tape, and the system will not mount the tape drive.
	It tells me:
"Device not available. Not on line or in config table"

	If I then do a SYSGEN> A A
it still comes back with same message.

Does anyone else have seen the same problem?
Is there a fix or work around for this problem?

	Regards,

Is your TK50 microcode up to snuff (or TZ30 if applicable?)?

it must be rev 45 or later. If not, you will get the results you see.

It worked ok with version 5.0-T3B2.
I could mount TK50 (MKA500) and everything worked fine.

So does this mean REV 45 is needed from version 5.1 and up,
or may this be caused by some "bug" in VMS

Sure it worked with V5.0T3b2. And we have done extensive debugging and have found
alot of bugs in microcode on the periphial. So, in the RELEASE NOTES and/or
COVERLETTER is says that your TZK50 must be at rev 45.

And no it is not a bug in VMS. As I stated before and above, rev 45 is needed.
CASE CLOSED!
