290.0. "Miscellaneous toolkit questions" by CURIE::FORBES (Windows are panes in the glass) Thu Feb 23 1989 16:49
Miscellaneous questions/observations...
- is a menu supposed to orient a separator to the same orientation
even if specified otherwise?
- popup menus don't like to come up the first time. On first
traversal, the children don't respond (arm).
- if a label is in a dialog box and a popup menu is supposed to
show, it seems the popup won't show anywhere on the label or to
the left of it.
- labels: gadget default to "no label" while widgets pick up their
name if no label is defined.
- is it bad practice to do an XRaiseWindow on the window of the parent
widget of a help widget? (i.e. get the help window to the top by
pulling up the shell beneath it?). Should this work?
- can I make the "hot spot" of a pulldown menu entry take over the
whole area of the widget with my favorite pixmap?
- consider a push button in a dialog box: on the arm callback I
create a popup menu as a child of the dialog box and which may
result in a cascade of menus. When I release from the spring-
loaded traversal outside of the cascade and the application window,
the cascade stays there! I cannot bring down the cascade again
until I seem to "clear" some state of the push button by clicking
on it.
- how does the help widget manage to act like an ADB until a certain
minimum size and then start behaving like a dialog box with fixed
positions?
