283.0. "Ultrix dxnotepad stops DECnet copying" by RICARD::LAFORGUE (It works better if you plug it!) Thu Feb 23 1989 11:10
This note has been posted in the ULTRIX, DECNET-ULTRIX and DECwindows
notesfiles.
I discovered that you cannot copy a file by DECnet while it is displayed
by dxnotepad on an ULTRIX workstation.
The copy command will stuck undefinitely without any message,
and nothing helps you to find that the cause is dxnotepad.
For example, look to an existing file, not write protected with dxnotepad:
funix% ls -l test
-rw-r--r-- 1 laforgue 10 Feb 23 16:20 test
funix% dxnotepad test &
Now loggin into a VMS account and try to copy this file
copy 52875::"/vbo/laforgue/test" test.text
The copy command will wait undefinitely until one exits from dxnotepad.
The same problem exist when trying to include this file in another one by EDT.
If the file in write protected before calling dxnotepad, no problem you can
copy it.
Question: why this behaviour of dxnotepad, since vi does not produces this
problem? Can it be fixed or at least produce a message?
For the little story, I prepared a QAR with dxnotepad, I saved it but I didn't
exit from dxnotepad. And when I tried to enter this QAR by EDT with the
include command, the QAR session was completely stuck, I could type Ctrl C,
Ctrl Y, no effect, I had to pass in local command of dlogin and exit the
session.
It took me a long time to understand that was related to the dxnotepad
which was iconified several hours ago.
