276.0. "Documentation for UIS to X" by CUJO::MATSUSHITA (JA3QVP) Wed Feb 22 1989 16:50

Does anybody know where I can find "UIS to X_window conversion"
    documentation?

It's called the DECwindows programming reference manuals :-)

Seriously, there is no such document available - I am still in the
process of writing one. There *is* a document that was written
over a year ago which was more a guide to writing UIS applications
that could be easily ported, and gives a broad overview of the
differnces between the two window systems it should be on HARBOR::
    someplace.

    The bottom line is:

There is no magic convertor. DECwindows and UIS functionality
intersect but neither is a subset of the other. And even once
all the functionality has been provided to truly make DECwindows
a superset of UIS, the design philosophy is so radically different
that by-and-large the typical UIS application must be completely
    	re-written.

The document being prepared will try to help people plan a strategy
for the port and point out the specific areas that must be investigated
to decide how to procede with a port. It will also try to provide
pointers to all the appropriate DECwindows documentation and routines
needed to emulate specific UIS functionality.

I'm not sure what these, or where they came from, but you're welcome
to take a look at them ... perhaps they will be of some help.
