Is there a problem with BLINKING fields and DecWindows/X11 ? While in a conversion from UIS to DecWindows the need for a blinking field showed up and I have been unable to find any call in the manuals that will help me blink an object other than a cursor. Can anyone help explain how, provide examples, and explain why not... Thanks ... Ken Breen ncoast::breen

When the cursor blinks, isn't the client turning it from black to white with explicit commands ? If the client is remote, aren't these explicit commands explicit messages ? Bruce | |||||

My understanding of blinking under DECwindows is that you do it manually by setting DECwindows timers and drawing the appropriate stuff to give the user a blinking effect. So, therefore, it requires DECwindows traffic to do blinking. You can't just tell the server to blink a set of pixels at the user. In most cases blinking isn't very friendly anyway. John |
