252.0. "Hosting and DECwindows" by LEZAH::SKOGLUND (George Skoglund - DTN: 297-5528) Mon Feb 20 1989 11:34

    After login under DECwindows to one account, I've set host to
    another account on the same system and then tried running the
    BOOKREADER. The error message I get is, as follows:

       $ run sys$system:decw$bookreader
       X Toolkit Error: Can't Open display
       %DWT-F-DWTABORT, xtoolkit fatal error

    The BOOKREADER runs fine from the account I originally log into,
    but after hosting to another account on the same system, I can't
    get any DECwindows software to run.

    Is this what DECwindows does, or is there something I can do to
    solve the problem?

252.1Sound like Session SecurityOIWS20::BRYSONMon Feb 20 1989 12:5718
    When you set host, I assume that you either
    1. DEFINE DECW$DISPLAY WSA#:
       where WSA#: is the WS device used by non-set host terminals
    2. Performed a SET DISPLAY command

    In either case, your problem sounds like security from the session
    manager. From your set host terminal, perform a SHOW DISPLAY.
    If you see node is 0 and transport is local, add a permission in the
    session manager security 0::*. If you see node is <NODENAME> and
    transport is DECNET, add a permission in the session manager security
    NODENAME::*. Apply it and this should solve the problem. Obviously
    using "*" allows anyone on this system to set up a connect to your
    display, you may want to add only specific usernames. You could use
    "*" while testing, however.
