Okay I'm tired out .... whew... Can anyone give me a pointer to the information about the files DECW$SERVER_allowed*.dat and/or decw$client_allow*.dat. Yes I know its unsupported. Yes I know it's undocumented. But I'd like to restart my serer from home to test an application, but since SDC will not allow me to grab the server once I kill my login session (yes it's in pause). I knew all this before, but can;t track down the information on how to use the files (what fields username and such). Interestingly enough I think this is just a valuable a tool (even though it's undocumented/unsupported) as Xdefaults.dat. I would think that in many environments this would be a mandatory quality. If I can find the wish list topic, I'll post it as a wish. Regards, Mike Weaver

Try note 179. If your workstation is paused, DECW$SERVER_ACCESS_ALLOWED.DAT and DECW$SERVER_ACCESS_TRUSTED.DAT will NOT help you. These security in these files are are used when NO SESSION MANAGER is running. The characteristics of the Session Manager found in DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT will override the security found in these files until the server is reset. If you are just sitting at the Login Dialog Box, you will be fine. BTW, the format of the file is "transport node user" * 0 SYSTEM for example David | |||||

Thanx much. I realized they would'nt help me if I'm paused, but I wonted to restart the server from home and stil grab access to it as if I had logged in. Thanx again, Mike Weaver |
