241.1 | Here's what we did | LDP::GABRIEL | CMP/ISV DECwindows Tech Support | Fri Feb 17 1989 14:25 | 25 |
|
This is how we upgrade most of our FT2 systems.....
o Apply DECWDELETE if DECwindows is already installed
o Install DECWBL11000.%
o Install VMSU2_DW1_050.%
o Install VMS051.%
o Install next version of DECwindows (SDC version)
The reason we had to install DECWBL11 had to do with RMS.EXE.
I believe there is a short cut that would allow you to copy over
RMS.EXE from a system already running V5.1 and then you can delete
the installation of DECWBL11, but I have yet to try this.
Good Luck !!!!

241.2 | Where is DECWDELETE | ABSZK::GREENWOOD | Tim. Asian Base Systems | Sat Feb 18 1989 17:03 | 7 |
| Where is DECWDELETE - I cannot find it on VMSKIT::SYS%$KITS:
I tried to install VMS 5.02 over 5.01 and DECwindows IFT2 and it failed because
DECwindows was installed. What is the next step ? (Is DECWBL11 really needed?)

241.3 | My 2 worth | GOFER::HARLEY | At home, you can scratch where it itches | Sun Feb 19 1989 10:31 | 11 |
| Here's what I'd suggest:
1) Install VMSU2_DW1_050 (I have a copy in MPGS::Sys$Kits:<DECW.FT2>)
2) Reboot
3) Install VMS051
4) Install DECW051
This should get you to 5.1

| DECWDELETE was shipped with some early base levels. The reason that Joe's
approach requires the installation of BL11 is that DECWDELETE screws up. In
the early baselevels the DECwindows kit included a patched RMS. In the later
baselevels that was moved into VMS. DECDELETE removes the patched RMS and
the subsequent DECwindows installation does not remove it. YOU SHOULD NOT
USE DECWDELETE. Instead, manually delete the following:
SYS$SYSTEM:DECW$*.EXE;*
SYS$LIBRARY:DECW$*.*;*
SYS$SYSROOT:[DECW$FONT...]*.*.*
That should give you plenty of space and allow you to skip the BL11
installation.

241.5 | In the release notes ?? | LDP::GABRIEL | CMP/ISV DECwindows Tech Support | Mon Feb 20 1989 14:03 | 11 |

Dick,
Was this mentioned in the release notes somewhere ? Should I have
RTFM before I replied ?
Confused,

241.6 | It worked ! | ABSZK::GREENWOOD | Tim. Asian Base Systems | Mon Feb 20 1989 14:54 | 6 |
| Harleys procedure described in .3 worked. Thanks Harley. Perhaps
one of the powers that be could copy VMSU2_DW1_050 from
MPGS::Sys$Kits:<DECW.FT2> to VMSKIT::SYS$KITS.

241.7 | Mentioned in here I think | IAGO::SCHOELLER | Who's on first? | Mon Feb 20 1989 15:45 | 12 |
| re: .5
Joe,
I am not sure if it was in the release notes. It was mentioned in the old
DECWINDOWS conference (and I think somewhere in here too). If I remember
correctly, the reason that it did not go in the release notes was that
almost all of our customers would never even have heard of DECWDELETE
let alone seen it.

241.8 | My copy will hang around for a while | GOFER::HARLEY | At home, you can scratch where it itches | Mon Feb 20 1989 20:26 | 7 |
| re .6
I'll leave the kits where they are for a while; they're getting more
than enough use, and I have the space.
