191.0. "PORTAGE:A1->DECwindows?" by PRSEAC::REGIS () Tue Feb 14 1989 06:09

    hello,

We are carrying out a feasibility study into the transfer of an
application developed in an ALL-IN-1 environment to a DECwindows
    environment.
Currently, we are examining the ease with which specific features
of ALL-IN-1 can be emulated using DECwindows.
    We have a problem.

Is it possible to implement the notion of an ALL-IN-1 script script
with DECwindows? If so, how ?

    More generally,
we would be interested in any opinions or ideas or advice on the
subject of porting an application developed under ALL-IN-1 to a
    DECwindows environment.

All ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards.

I would recommend that you look into DECforms for the forms
interface portion of your application. See the Notes Conference DSSDEV::FORMS
for more info. You may also want to look into LEGO (used in DECdecision)
as a possible solution to the script issue.

(People who post pointers really should participate in the conferences
they point people to, Mike.) Anyway, ALL-IN-1 WORKSTATION SERVICES has
apparently been cancelled and the VAX Notes Conference has been deleted
for the sake of disk space on SMALL3.

Gee, guess I can't keep up with as many as you Pat. It was a
pointer I had that I thought I'd share.. I can't keep up with
       everything.

I suggest you try one of the other ALL-IN-1 conferences rather than to
    start speculation anew here.

And anyway, the "cancellation" of ALL-IN-1 Workstation Services is
nothing more than an adjustment of emphasis in ALL-IN-1 Phase II.
The activities and development team remain much the same but the
design point has changed from "making DECwindows user friendly"
(problem now owned by SDT) to opening ALL-IN-1 to the network. Now
that the LRP has been put to bed, further details of ALL-IN-1 V2.4
    and beyond will be forthcoming.
