143.3 | Wrapping problem | STP::ANDERSON | Blah Blah Blah | Sun Feb 12 1989 16:58 | 8 |
| Now that DECwindows is running on the VR100 monitor, how do I get rid
of the problem where the screen display "wraps" on the left and right?
Under UIS, the SYSGEN parameter TTY_DIALTYPE was changed from 128 to 0
and this fixed the problem. Is there a solution for DECwindows?

Set TTY_DEFCHAR2 = %0002100E and reboot. That'll do it..

143.6 | What about window size? | TRHLEG::MOGENS | | Wed Feb 15 1989 06:29 | 11 |
| I'm also using VR-100 monitor, and after setting TTYDEFCHAR2=%0002100E and
TTY_TIALTYPE=64, the video signal was OK.
But, I now have the problem that the window size (width) are too big.
This gives me an default ICON-box that does not fit on the screen, and a
terminal window that are about two centimeters too wide.
Any ideas about this as well ??
If we support the VR-100, is the above documented anywhere ???

143.7 | Here's why | DECWIN::FISHER | Burns Fisher 381-1466, ZKO3-4/W23 | Wed Feb 15 1989 13:39 | 16 |
| There is a difference between "it works" and "it's supported". It is not
supported. There is no official hardware configuration that customers have
which has a supported CPU with a VR100. What we do have in there is only
because it was easy and a few people here wanted it.
The support is not as good in DECwindows as it was in UIS, because the VR100
has rectangular pixels, while DECwindows applications assume they are square.
In UIS, we could compensate for this because we did scaling from real coordinates
to pixels. All we had to do was change the scale factor. IN DECwindows,
all coordinates are integer pixel positions. Thus there is no place to put
the scaling in. (Well of course you COULD add scaling in the server, but
why should we spend the person-power and bytes to support an officially
non-existent configuraton?)

143.8 | implications.... | TYFYS::MOLLER | Halloween the 13th on Elm Street #7 | Thu Feb 16 1989 15:26 | 11 |
| The upgrade path for VSI's (according to what I see in DEC-Direct) is a
replacement of the CPU, a TK50, 8 Meg of memory & assorted driver
boards. Nowhere does it show an upgrade of the VR-100. It does say that
this is the appropriate path for VSI's. So, that implies some form of
supported configuration with the old style hardware. I'm glad someone
got it to work (This is being entered using the old style hardware),
since odds are good that I'll have a VR-100 on this VAXstation for some
time to come.
