107.0. "How to output text ?" by EMC2::FIRTH (Chris Firth, Digital EHQ, DTN 885 6719) Thu Feb 02 1989 10:24

    This is a trivial question but one I cant answer!

    I want to display text created by my program in a window in
    much the same way that the DECterm widget does ie I simply
    want to write a load of ascii text to a region.

    I cannot work out how you write text to a widget such as the
    'window' widget (as an aside I cant see what a window widget
    does at all, since it can have no children according to the UIL
    manual)!

    The DECburger example 'cheats' by writing the order to a list box,
    so that was no help.

    Thanks for any replies,

107.1Window widget "in a Nutshell"LEOVAX::TREGGIARIThu Feb 02 1989 11:188
The idea of a window widget, is that after you create it, and realize it,
you can call XtDisplay and XtWindow to get the Display and Window of the
window widget. You then provide an expose callback procedure to do
whatever X drawing primitives you want (using the Display and Window),
including text.
