102.0. "Presenting DECwindows" by DCC::HAGARTY (Essen, Trinken und Shaggen...) Thu Feb 02 1989 07:01

Ahhh Gi'day...

A very old DEC problem rather close to my current heart...

Do we have any DECwindows demonstration packages? I've come to believe
that we shouldn't release a product without one! The old UIS one was
*terrible*! Does one exist or being done?

    We need:

. The ability to be able to display a screenfull of "likely"
applications, and then be able to LOCK the KEYBOARD, so that
somebody can look at the pictures, but don't screw around with it!
	Very important for tradeshows, etc

. A "rolling demo" showing (even just rendering) pictures on the
screen with some text explaining how and what you are doing! Go
through a session of fileview, extending it, opening a cardfile to
display a picture, sending a mail, updating a DECwrite document etc

. A tool to create and modify these! UTOX isn't for rendering
images! The DDIF viewer never shows the FULL image (you get scroll
bars etc) and is a little shakey! VIS (IMAGE VIEW) is Ok, but clips
1cm from the bottom of the picture, and you cannot place position
it on the screen, nor time the displays!

. So a (robust) tool to read a data file and paste ddif or X or
sixel images on the screen at a requested point (with scroll bars,
icons etc if possible) for the required amount of time. It should
also run at (performance of H/W aside) the same speed on most of
our machines (a 5 minute rolling demo isn't readable in 28 seconds)

I've seen some good UWS demos, why can't we do that for VMS? Can
anybody give us a pointer? I'm sure there MUST be something out there..

	Thanks and Regards,
	Dennis Hagarty,
