94.0. "DECwindows Notes" by CURIE::MARTI () Wed Feb 01 1989 13:18

    Where can I find a new kit for DECwindows Notes which works with
    the SDC version of DECwindows?

94.3Can't get anything from CLT these daysPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeff LomickaFri Feb 03 1989 12:368
Because every time I've tried for the path MONTH I get "insifficient
system resources at remote note.". I can't even get through with FTSV!
I ran FTSV for a few days, then it went fatal with "login information
invalid".

Anyone else have a copy of the kit?

94.4MAX LINKS too small?POOL::HALLYBThe day the music diedFri Feb 03 1989 12:5210
    My guess is you're seeing all the network links being tied up by,
    ta-da, DECWindows client/server connections. Workstation users on CLT
    may find their code runs faster on the boot member.

    Perhaps a spot of mail to the system manager, requesting more network
    links, may be in order. Of course, they may have their own ideas about
    how many links they want to support...

    I have a copy of the 27-Jan kit. I put it in one of our nodes public
    directory (see below). I'll leave it there for a few weeks, but this
    won't be a permanent distribution point.

  Nope. CLT isn't a cluster alias anymore. It's a standalone node.
  It used to be a 3500, but it blew it's cpu (too many notes, perhaps? :-)).
  In the interim, it's a config 5 Microvax II. Apparantly, there just aren't
  enough VUPS in a uVAXII to serve notes and kits to the world, simultaneously.

  Eventually, it will get fixed and everything will be roses. Until then,
  keep on trying....

    Hmmm... That's odd. TURRIS (the new TLE notes server) is
    only a config 5 MVII and it hardly ever gets loaded to the point
    of "insufficient resources". It only does notes and not
    distribution of kits, however.

RE: .7

CLT and TURRIS are configured a bit differently. CLT has only one disk (a
RA82) that is both system disk and data disk for all their notes conferences
and kits. TURRIS has a RA60 system disk and a RA81 data disk. What kills CLT
is all the seeking back and forth on the disk--the light is out most of the
time on the RA82. Also, TURRIS does not do mail and FAL access, both of which
require more access to system files (NOTES connects to already existing server
processes, which get image activated once and then stay in memory). FAL access
on CLT is limited to 10 processes, to leave logical links available for mail,
and that further limits its utility as a kit distribution site.
