Whose security dialog box is being invoked?

| I've experienced a similar problem, see 23.3 in this notesfile.
However, the error message I get is not "can't open display" but rather
"xlib i/o error".

| The format for enabling security is different on VMS and Ultrix.
Be sure you're using the appropriate format.
You mentioned that you had set DECW$DISPLAY to "9DART::0"
If you're using SET DISPLAY you just say "/node=9DART", if you
want you can add "/screen=0". On an earlier base level you could
say "set display/node=9dart::0" but this no longer works, and you
don't get a meningful error message.

Whose security dialog box is being invoked?
The Ultrix m/c's dialog box is invoked before logging into the VMS
m/c.

| re:.4
Ok, then a few questions and points:
1. Does the ultrix server have the correct host address for the vms
client?
2. When VMS is involved or _linger isn't used on u*ix sockets, there
is a race between sensing a link is dropped and getting back data.
This is especially interesting when the server disconnects because the
client wasn't authorized. Try a few times.
3. Momentarily disable access control on the server and see if the vms
system connects.

| This is like the instructions on a TV to make sure it is plugged in, but...
Are you sure the Ultrix machine is running DECnet?
-------------------
FYI, while Andy's discussion of SET DISPLAY/HOST is correct, that is not your
problem. The way you did it should still work.
Do double check to make sure that your Ultrix machine understands the name
of your VMS machine as Monty said. Try, for example,
dlogin <vmsmachinename>
If that does not work, you need to find out where your network problems are.

Are you sure the Ultrix machine is running DECnet?
-> Yes.
-------------------
FYI, while Andy's discussion of SET DISPLAY/HOST is correct, that is not your
problem. The way you did it should still work.
-> Set display/host fails out of hand, unrecognised qualifier.
Do double check to make sure that your Ultrix machine understands the name
of your VMS machine as Monty said. Try, for example,
dlogin <vmsmachinename>
-> I have to dlogin to execute the application so thats not the problem.

copy NETRIX::~thomas/tmp/dstat to your 3.0 systems and either
post or mail me the results of
dstat -f dnet -a
BTW, that should be SET DISP/NODE=

93.10 | same problem | NZOV01::PARKINSON | Reunite Gondwannaland! | Thu Feb 23 1989 21:12 | 13 |
| I have the same problem. set display/node=GILISH gives me
%SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHDEV, no such device available
Interestingly I rebooted the same machine under VMS and got the
same error. I dlogin to the server (or SET HOST depending on o/s),
so I'm connected. I can set host back again from the server.
I tried SET DISPLAY/CREATE/NODE=GILISH
No difference.
