58.0. "/NoCom please" by LESLIE::LESLIE (Andy  Leslie, CSSE / VMS) Sat Jan 28 1989 15:33

I'd like to see logins with the /NOCOM or /COM=filename.com implemented
    under DECWINDOWS.

Specifically I'd like this because sometimes I don't want to start the
full circus. If this were to be implemented, I'd like to get just the
icon box and the session manager. Nothing else.

DECwindows has it now, doesn't it? I know in the past I've logged
in to my workstation with RYAN/NOCOM, and up came only the
	session manager and window manager...

Oooops. I haven't tried this for awhile, meant to post it months
    ago.

If it's all there, I apologise.

Well, the Session Manager on V5.2 starts up DECterms and/or FileView
    as usual.

Not what I wanted. I'd like Session Manager. I'll start what I want.

Indeed, on SDC V5.1 logging in RYAN/NOCOM gives me nothing but
the session manager and the icon box, so DECW$LOGIN.COM is not
being executed. But, I start everything (including DECterms)
via DECW$LOGIN.COM. I bet that the session manager starts up
whatever is specified in its setup regardless of /NOCOM. This
does make a certain amount of sense, since /NOCOM literally
means "don't execute *LOGIN.COM", but it doesn't match what
the user expects when specifying /NOCOM.
