| I occasionally get a message from DECTERM, "Remote Node Unknown" when
logging in to DECW. Is this a resource problem? Or what? Config:
standalone 6mb VS2000 wit 2 RD54's.

It is the same, and it's a feature. It works nicely with QuickCopy
(push the window you want to copy to back and MB3 drag over the
text you want to copy in the now-exposed window).

40.3 | Another question | 12116::SWAMINATHAN | Eat and be Merry, tomorrow is not ours | Thu May 25 1989 23:29 | 22 |
| I have 5.2 running on my system. With 5.2 lots of security features
have been put in. I am not able to run VUE$MASTER from a remote node
and I get
Can't Open Display
error.
My security is fine. Is there anything I should worry about when the
node is configured and DECNET is started ? Should I have task objects
enabled or disabled ? What kind of access ( proxy/decnet ) does the
CLIENT (Compute Server ) use to establish connection with the Display
Server ?
This worked fine with 5.1.
A suggestion:
The DCL command SET DISPLAY should have a parameter say
"/ACCESS=SOMETHING" so that the CLIENT use that establish
the connection. This will provide flexibility for system
managers either way - security conscious or don't care.

| I think something else has changed on your system. I also run the new version
but have had absolutely no problems running a FileView from a remote system
to my workstation.
The only access checking I know if is handled by the Server on the workstation.
The server has a default list, which is modified on a per session basis with
the Session Manager Customize Security menu option.
Check that:
1) The session manager security database allows access from the remote
node::user
2) The remote node has a correct DECnet name/address for the workstation
3) The workstation has a correct DECnet name/address for the remote node

40.5 | Rebooting Worked | CIMNET::SWAMINATHAN | Eat and be Merry, tomorrow is not ours | Fri May 26 1989 16:44 | 8 |
| Thanks for the reply. I did a shutdown and restarted the whole thing.
File view started working. I found something similar in another note
in VMS_FIELD_TESTS.
I would still be interested in the access method.
