32.0. "Invoking DECterm from an application program" by KOBAL::HOCHULI () Thu Jan 26 1989 16:41

If I create a DECterm window in my application but I'm not running on a
work station (using decw$display to display to a workstation node) the
DECterm window will not come up and an error is returned. Is there a
way to fix this or is this a limitation of DECterm? (My call to create
a DECterm window works fine when I'm running my application from a work
    station).

Is there a way to position a DECterm window invoked from an application,
change its logo, or eliminate some of the menus it provides.

Somewhere on the system a copy of DECW$TERMINAL has to be running.
The VAXstation windowing software does this for you as a freebie.
You've got to do it yourself on other non-VAXstation systems.

Jeff Lomika's "Child" utility (referenced elsewhere) is a good
starting point for garnering further information and code for both
    questions.

32.2Are you using DECwTermPort?BUMOON::ARSENAULTFri Jan 27 1989 12:1615
If 'DECterm window invoked from my applicaton' means that you are using
DECwTermPort, then you can change DECterm resources. The call takes both a
customization and a setup file argument. Through these you can change titles,
position, terminal characteristics, size... I don't believe it is possible
to eliminate menu items. The routine is documented in the V5.1 release notes.
One thing, the format given for the customization string is incorrect. It
is supposed to be something like

	resource: value\resource: value\...

I say 'something like' because I can't remember for sure what the
seperator is. I'm not sure if it's '\'.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. There seems to be some
problem with several nodes in the cluster getting to the notesfiles.
