Subject: Representation of Digital

Thanks for agreeing to represent us on a panel discussion on sexual
harassment on the Sunday, October 20, edition of "Front Page" on WMUR,
Channel 9, Manchester.

As we discussed, co-hosts Karen Appel and Joe Grandmaison will be talking
with a panel including you, a representative of the NH Human Rights
Commission, and possibly a representative of the NH Commission on the
Status on Women. They are looking to us for a comment on how a large
company handles sexual harassment issues in a positive manner.

The taping of the show is scheduled for Friday at 1:00PM at the studio
on 50 Phillippe Cote Drive (off Commercial Street). You should plan to
arrive by 12:30. Also, I told Karen you would call her on Tuesday,
October 15 to confirm and also to get an idea of her questions. You can
contact her at 603-641-9006.

We appreciate your helping out. This is a good opportunity for us to be
represented on a topic where we have enough experience to be an example
to other companies.

DIRECTIONS TO WMUR:

Take Route 293 to Granite Street Exit. Turn right at the end of the
exit. Take left at Commercial Street. Take second left which is
Phillippe Cote Drive and follow signs to Granite Street Bar. WMUR is
located in the same building (# 50 Phillippe Cote Drive).

I'm in Colorado, so we probably won't receive this show.

Would anyone consider taping it? I could exchange a blank tape for the
   recorded one in mail...

1069.2Tracking sexual harrassmentSOLVIT::FEBONIOFri Oct 18 1991 13:5522
It's interesting to see this note started here. A friend of
mine called me yesterday to ask if I had the opportunity to
see her on the channel 9 news on Wednesday. It seems Karen
Appel was at Sanders/Lockheed on Spitbrook Rd with a film
crew and was asking female employees whether or not they had
been sexually harrassed on the job.

I asked my friend whether or not she would answer honestly,
even if that answer meant stating she had been harrassed, while
her boss stood in the same area watching the taping. Her
answer is obvious, no, she would not have jeopardized her job
during this interview--she would lie if necessary. Fortunately
she didn't need to lie, but how many others did?

Based on the above, I don't feel that the channel 9 special
on sexual harrassment will be accurate or worth watching. In
fact, I can't believe that they are actually trying to gather
data in the above manner. Although, at the moment, I can't
present a better way to gather this type of information.

It's on sometime around noon. Check the local paper to make sure. If
you don't get the paper, let me know and I'll check tonight and send
    you mail.

Thank you Judy. I'll be sure to get the paper or else just read that
section while in the store. (They hate that. hehehe) Mail won't help as
I don't have a system at home. Good thing too or else one would never
pull me away from this scream. (Addiction? What addiction? I can quit
    when ever I want to :-) )

I had read it as "screen" without even noticing. :-)

I have it on tape. If Terza or anyone else, wishes to send me an
address of where to send the tape, I'll start passing it around. The
program was pretty good, but tried to steer the discussion to the
problem in state gov't. and kept only minimum concern to the private
sector. Also, one of the speakers tried to pass having such a policy is
good business and economic sense. While this may be true, I would hope
that at least here at DEC it is also the caring attitude this company
and most of it's employees have to others. Seemed to me that he said
that the state doesn't have one because it doesn't have to show a
profit and only pays lip service to issue when an extreme case shows
up. Rather a poor attitude and if so, and I find out it's so, a lot of
incumbents will lose my vote and I'm sure others.
