1060.0. "Sending messages to George Bush?" by CSC32::CONLON (Dreams happen!!) Thu Oct 10 1991 09:25

This isn't meant to solicit anyone to do anything (I want to be very
clear about this) - but would someone describe the best (most effective
way) to contact the White House to express an opinion about something
President Bush is doing (or planning to do)?

I read in the morning paper that Bush's reaction to the charges of
sexual harassment against Judge Clarence Thomas involve:

"...The White House plotted a counterattack to present Thomas
as a family man with greater credibility than the woman accusing
    	him of sexual harassment..."

We get to watch the president of the United States do the same "put
the victim on trial" that has long been a problem for rape victims
    who try to prosecute.

I have an opinion about this and I want to tell my president about it.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Something else I read in the paper about this -

Administration officials have portrayed "no anxiety that defending
Thomas and ATTACKING HILL could in the end backfire and subject
Bush to the same charges of insensitivity about sexual harassment
that have been hurled at the Senate."

When I want the President to know what I think on an issue, I send a
registered letter, return receipt requested. Occasionally [?!] I get
_really_ fired up and send Overnight Mail [ret rec. etc.] or a
    telegram.

The President can be found at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, I can look up the
ZIP code I guess... but the Postal Service and Western Union certainly
know where to find him without it.

I've been sending letters to various members of our government since I
was 12 years old [w/ or w/o zip] and I've always gotten a receipt back.

And, of course, one of the most powerful messages you can send
to George Herbert Walker Bush can only be delivered on one special
  day every four years.

    Carol,

I know most folks here think little of soapbox, but
the topic on CT has been receiving regular updates from different
noters. You might check it out. Please note though that only the
last 40 or so (maybe less) are relevant to todays proceedings.

I've never voted for any presidential candidate who won!
Seems my voice has been drowned out by the crowd. :-)
