| What I saw on the news was that they are suspected of setting up
illegal pyramiding schemes. What that amounts to is the people at the
top of the organization sell "dealerships" to others and take a
percentage of their sales profits, then those people do the same, and
so on down the pyramid. So basically Nu-Skin is being accused of being
more in the business of selling "dealerships" than products, and that
is where much of their profits may be coming from. Plus, (not sure on
this) I think there is a cost to start a "dealership".

| But why should that be a problem to someone who merely wants to buy the
products? Why should they not? I understand that pyramids are illegal
but even if that's what Nu-Skin is doing, it doesn't change the quality
of their products or the fact that someone might want to purchase them.
Should it?

| No, normally it shouldn't. I was only answering the question what was
the alleged illegal activity that came up, as for once I knew the
answer. ;-)
The only caution I would have is that if this is the case, they could
be shut down at any time if the allegations are proven, and finding the
product after that would be difficult at best. I know when I get used
to a product I *hate* to shop around again for a replacement when I can
no longer find it. That, and pyramid schemes tend to work such that
the few at the top tend to make money off the many at the bottom, and
it's been my experience that the many at the bottom are usually women.
That's information I like to know before I start using a product.

Saying negative things about other companies in notesfiles is against
DEC policy. I know that the notes in here were only stating facts
(like the lawsuit against Nu-Skin) but the notes are treading
dangerously close to "negative recommendations."

The fact that NuSkin is invoved with pyrimid scheme means that
their product is over priced. It could mean 'Not worth it' or
you are paying a lot of overhead. I believe there is nothing
magic about their product.

Relative to what? Overhead? The market? Their competitors?
It is quite possibly libelous to describe Multi-level Marketing as a pyramid
scheme as the latter is illegal.
>I believe there is nothing magic about their product.
Who said their product used "magic" to acheive whatever results they deliver?
Just what do you know about their productS? Not much, I'd bet.
Learn the facts, THEN open your mouth.

My God! Nu-Skin is plain and simply Network Marketing!! It's not a
Pryamid scheme! Ya, maybe it's kinda like what those illegal pyramids are,
but it is all legal, and the products are great!! At least to me they
are! And believe me, I am one of those who has tried everything and
spent 100's of dollars on every kind of cosmetic that exists from
top-of-the-line stuff (Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc.) to the cheap junk
you buy in a store like Woolworth's. And because I like the products
so much and truly believe in them, I decided to become an independent
distributor. And believe me...I am not saying all this stuff to make
any sales...I sincerely love Nu-Skin products...I have never used a
better moisturizer in my life...Nu-Skin's moisturizer is the only one
I've ever been able to use under makeup and not have my skin get greasy
or shiny...and the prices are very reasonable! They fall about midway
between say Estee Lauder and Maybelline. I love 'em! And so does
everyone I've ever sold any to! Not one complaint yet! And lots of
reorders!
Anyway, enough of that...but like the last reply said, Find out the
FACTS First!!

| 1. I like NuSkin since it's the only moisturizer I can use that I'm
not allergic to and doesn't make me itch.
2. The newspaper articles I've read only stated that NuSkin is being
investigated because of allegations of being a "pyramid". Nothing
was stated as to whether it was true or not, just that an
investigation was going on.

I bought some NuSkin product about 6 months ago and I am allergic to
some of their ingredients. Their prices are reasonable compared
to other good quality brands. But, I can't use it. The only truly
hypoallergenic skin care product for me is Shiseido.
I guess I have to keep paying the high price, ;-).

RE: <<< Note 939.14 by STAR::MACKAY "C'est la vie!" >>>
Try Elizabeth Grady products... they usually recommend a facial
however to prescribe the correct product but the product costs
less than many make-up counters products so you could justify
this facial.

Is there a particular salon that you go to and trust?
I hate talking to girls behind cosmetic counters, they live on
commissions and would like to sell me everything under the sun.

| I go to the Elizabeth Grady in Brockton, MA (They are
only on the east coast, though-I asked) Nothing better
after a hard day at work then to stop in for a facial.
The products are not *cheap*, but they are good. They
have sales once in awhile (July was the last one) on their
products. They only sell EG products, but I am sure the
technicians get a commission, too....The prices on facials
vary according to what one you choose, and they require
appointments.
