931.0. "When Your Eyes Play Tricks On You...." by BOOTKY::MARCUS () Mon Jul 22 1991 16:34

Wow! Do you sometimes glance at a newspaper (or whatever) and slightly
change a headline (or whatever) into a rather mind blowing event?

I just did that with the local newspaper, and, I'll tell you I can't stop
alternating between laughter and awe....The headline said, Finalists in
Talent Competition. I read:

	Feminists in Talent Competition

I mean, think about it....=:o ;)

Anyway, here is a place to enter those occaisions when your eyes have
mumbled...

Would it be safe to assume this would *not* involve a swimsuit or wet
    T-shirt contest?

I may have posted this already:

I often drive by a rural home/office (old victorian farmhouse) which
has a sign I often read incorrectly:

    my take: Law and Meditation

the sign says:	Law & Mediation

Nick, I think that competition would only include things like which one
could open the door for themself, or pay their own check. :-)

    Hi,

Just had to add this! My 7 year old daughter and I were driving by
a small mall, and she said, "What does "For Lice" mean?" Everywhere
I look, she said, is signs "for lice". I took a look at one she
pointed to and it said, "For lease". I cracked up!

Just now, in note 25.84: I did a double take, thinking that Liz
was requesting that someone nail the message to her - perhaps in
punishment for some notable ;) crime.

A sign on a friend's dormroom door was pilfered from the bio lab at

    it read: "BIOCHEMICAL OFFICE"

    what I saw: "BISEXUAL OFFICE"

Now, I realize that the particular obscenity Alice implies here is
based upon her British English and the slang current in her locale.
But the first time I read it I was astonished at Queen B's practices,
or, rather, that Alice knew about them.

I read this as a religious query (and couldn't resist answering it as
    such -- see 1016.20).
