928.0. "Looking for Old Bicycles" by ASABET::RAINEY () Sun Jul 21 1991 12:28

    I would like to make a request of members of this community.
    
    I have a friend who in conjunction with some folks from Fort
    Devens collect bicycles.  These guys look for anybody willing
    to donate a bike, no matter what the condition, then they refurbish
    them (at their own cost) to be distributed at Christmas to local
    childeren.  The donations to the children are anonymous and these
    guys keep their names out of it.  They figure that if they can do
    something to help someone else out, that's all the reward they
    need.  They start collecting bikes in August, so I'd like to ask
    that anybody who would be interested in donating a bike send me
    mail at ASABET::RAINEY.  And just so there is no misunderstanding,
    this is not an actual formal charity, just a bunch of guys getting
    together to do something they are good at for the pleasure of making
    some child's holiday a little brighter.  Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.

    There's another organization that does similar things with more adult
    sized bikes and sends them to Central America.  The name of the group
    is Bikes Not Bombs.  Send mail if interested.
