Arrrggg!
A few months back I got mail from a guy who had read my notes here in
=wn= and discovered that I was a Lesbian (or bisexual or whatever ;-).
He wrote me to tell me about how his wife had cheated on him with a
woman, and asked if I could help him "understand". he sounded very
sincere, and so I wrote to him, talking to him about my personal
experiences. His question got continually more personal, until
eventually I just sort of stopped writing him...
It bugged me a little but no big deal.
Then I found out from a some other women that this same guy has been
writing them, with the same story and the same results!! And not just
recently!
What a creepy feeling! I feel like I've been had and harassed.
Has anyone else gotten mail like this???

Ahem.
Why do you think that Note 1.21 exists? And is mentioned in the
automatic conference message rotation? Hint, hint, hint.
Resigned sigh. I understand why you didn't think of the two things
in the same context. Ann brightened. Perhaps this will get
someone else's brain to change gears. And write the moderators.

You know I've found this same kind of feeling when my wife or kids get
a obscene phone calls. That bad feeling is something like, "why is this
(phone or mail) terrific piece of technology being used to harrass
those who it is supposed to help.

D!, that is so creepy. How awful to have had that experience, though
I'm glad you were able to get him to stop. I really appreciate your
sharing your experience here, because I fear that other women have
heard from him also but have been reluctant to come forward. However,
I'm going to set this note nowrite for now, because it doesn't feel
right to me to have discussion about this invasion of your (and
possibly other women's) privacy.
If anyone else has heard from this man, please see note 1.21. More
generally, if anyone ever gets Mail that makes them uncomfortable
(whether or not you think it constitutes harrassment) as a result of
your membership in this notesfile, please contact the moderators. It's
possible that you're not the only one being bothered.
We all need to remember that this is a public notesfile and that
anything we write here can be read by anyone in the company (not just
the folks who write and identify themselves here), but no one has the
right to harrass, intimidate, or try to get you to discuss something
that you don't want to discuss.
