711.0. "O Negative Blood Donors Needed" by ICS::STRIFE () Tue Feb 26 1991 15:59

    A close friend of mine and fellow Digit is going into Mass General
    for open heart surgery on March 12.  Phil is going to need  at 
    least 6 pints of blood.  We're looking for folks with O Negative blood
    who are willing to be "Designated Donors" for him.  These people
    would have to be able to go into Mass General and donate some time
    between March 7 and 11.   
    
    If any of you can do this, please let me know  (ICS::Strife) .

    A quick note to than all of you who replied with good wishes and offers
    of help.  Phil's surgeon reduced the maximum amount of blood that he
    felt might be needed to 3 pints -- hopefully  they won't use any -- and
    we were able to find 3 donors.
    
    Phil was very touched by all the offers of help, as was I.  Thanks
    again.  I'll let you know how things go with the surgery next week.

    I just learned that Phil's surgery went extremely well.  The doctors
    expect him to be out of surgical intensive care Thursday or Friday
    at the latest and out of the hospital the middle of next week.
    
    Thank you all agian for your expressions of concern, support and offers
    of help.  THey meant a lot to Phil and to me.
