| Kate,
I'd check skiing notes file for get starters. Also, I've called on some
condo's via the "Ski" magazine. (You can buy it at any store.) Look in
the back of mag, it lists condos for rent and sometimes the prices.
Also, check the Sunday newspapers.
I've stayed in Killington's ski area. Alot of party places to go.
Great pubs! The past weekend was spent in N. Woodstock. Located at
near Loon and Cannon mountain. Again. Lots to do. Sometimes I've
found if you stay at a hotel they offer snowmobile rentals....ect...
Brenttonwoods is a good area for beginnner skiers. The slopes are
generally beginner to intermidiate few expert.
Killington, well its huge lots and lots of trails. Also, there Pico a
further down the road. That's a good beginner to intermidiate area.
I stayed at the North Star Lodge in Killington. Was very pleased with
my room.
Best thing to do is call and ask tons of questions......
I don't have the skiing notes files node at the moment. I'll put it in
my next reply....
Good luck!

| It can be somewhat difficult to find the exact info you're looking
for in SKIING, although a note asking for references will get you
lots of pointers.
I don't personally know of anywhere in New England that offers *all*
of the things you asked for. Sleigh rides and snowmobile trips
are particularly difficult.
My immediate reaction was that you should try North Conway, NH. Great
shopping, good nightlife, call the Chamber of Commerce for condo info
(or check the Rentals Available note in SKIING). There are at least 4
ski areas in close proximity, with Cranmore Mt being 2 blocks off the
main drag in town.
Second choice would probably be Stowe, Vermont. Third choice
Killington, Vt. If you really want Maine, try Sugarloaf - but I
don't believe that there are lots of "alternate" activities to skiing
there.
Please, let us know where you decide to go and how the trip was
when it's done.

| Kate, sounds like lots of fun!
Jackson, NH, offers most of the things you want and is in driving
distance of the rest. There are lots of nice bed and breakfast inns
that offer package deals -- I haven't stayed at any of these places
but I've looked into it 'cause I'd like to. The Christmas Tree Inn
advertises they have a skating rink. The Jackson Inn looked nice.
Nordic Village rents condo-type units by the week (might be a little
pricey). I think they all have sleigh rides. You're not far from downhill
skiing, cross-country skiing is just outside the door, and there
are shuttles to some of the main activities. And it's only about 15
miles to the North Conway area mentioned earelier for shopping.
A bit longer to drive is the Balsams/Wilderness resort area. They
have EVERYTHING including game room and music. We stayed there once
in the summer and loved it. But again, pricey.
I've heard good things about Sunday River, Maine, from some of my
neighbors. I've never been there myself.
A cheaper way to go is to rent a condo unit from somebody. Check the
rentals section of Digital This Week and the bulletin
boards around your facility. Lots of people own cabins or are looking
to sublet a timeshare or such. I don't know if the Classified ads notes
file carries that kind of ad or not; might be worth checking. If you're
interested you can send me mail and I can give you the name of a place
we've stayed at and enjoyed.
