624.1 | The Scup | REGENT::BROOMHEAD | Don't panic -- yet. | Wed Jan 09 1991 16:27 | 31 |
| Andrea,
I'd say that classic meeting place for Womannoters, The Rusty
Scupper, is mid-way between Bedford and Marlboro.
Directions: Grab your instructor firmly by the lapels, and ask,
"How do I get to Route 2A?" Mate the explanation up with the
diagram below, which I think is rather nice.

| ...sss... rumble... Count me in too!! At least I can currently make
it. Don't know what my bossman will be having me do that day, but the
chances are high that I'll be able to stick a HappyHour ScupperStop in
the itinerary and wander homeward thence. On the off chance that I'd
be asked to be out of town that day, I'll scream a lot!
I'm *glad* you posted this idea today (-: and I'm flattered that you
invited both me and my Alter Genii specifically! :-) rather than any
later, since I'm about to be off-net for several days, not to return
(at hi-baud-rate, any road) until Weds 15 Jan... I'd hate to have had
you think I was ugh-noring you...
Mais OUI, Masieur! (-: My just-coined Frenchoid equivalent of Monsieur
and Madame stuck together, la "hir." :-)
Merci pour la bonne ide!!
(-: And I get to ask, face-to-face, whether E Grace Noonan is related
[through an obscure alphabetic connection] to one of our greater US
Presidents, Harry S Truman. Ooohh, my anticipation is legendary!!!:-)
(Hi E -- it is I!)
(And AnnB, do I infer correctly from the presence of .1 that you too
will be there? To infer less would be truly Heretical, methought!)
(Private joke for JOYOFLEXers only:-)
And sorry I haven't been able to opine about the various course and
activity possibilities you posted elsewhere... My first reaction was
"go for the music course" but then I realized that "if I were you" is
too presumptuous a statement to make when I haven't met you... But
that can be fixed! At any rate, I resonated (haha) most to the music,
fwiw...
...sss... elbmur... Cheers, Dan

By the way, Andrea, the folks at the Beford training
center are used to directing visitors all over the
confusing-to-strangers New England countryside, so they
will prob be quite helpful.

HUGFEST
If this class goes like most, I'll probably be there a little early.
Since some of us, don't know the others of us, maybe we should
have the host/ess direct us to the "Digital Party". Of course,
if E Grace is there, we'll all be able to tell because of the
hugs running/tumbling around the area. :-)
So, the first one there us should talk to the host/ess to let them
know our location. Though I suppose I could always die my hair
purple. Tee-hee!
What happens if I grab my instructor and they don't have lapels????
Have a great week,
-Andrea

| Wing it on the lapels.
Actually, since the exit from BUO dumps you right at an entrance
to Route 3, you might prefer to just take Route 3 south for one
exit, and turn right/south/west onto Route 128, then turn right
again onto Route 2 a few exits later.
Yes, I'll try to come. What time is Happy Hour, anyways?

>What time is Happy Hour, anyways?
Ooooo, you guys on the East coast live a sheltered life. I can see I'm
going to have to corrupt you a bit. :-)
Happy Hour usually runs 4-7pm. Unless, they do things differently out your
way. Basically, whenever you can leave work.
See you there - Smiles,
-Andrea
It's snowing, it's snowing. Isn't that special? This ex-Californian still
thinks its neat. (Provided I can drive home in one piece, of course)
I even made a snowperson next to the steps into work. :-)

Hahaha...that's what I said when I moved out here.
Only to come to find out they don't HAVE happy hours in New England.
They are illegal. So, no one understands what you're talking about
when you say "happy hour."
Happy Hour in the west usually implies free food and/or reduced price
drinks or two-for-one drinks.

We used to have happy hours here in the northeast. I can't remember
the chain of events completely, but it had to do with people overdrinking,
then getting in a car and killing someone. Was it the courts that
outruled happy hour? Or did the bars voluntarily stop them because
they were being sued?

624.11 | MA has repressive liquor laws | BLUMON::WAYLAY::GORDON | Tongue firmly in cheek... | Fri Jan 11 1991 16:55 | 27 |
| The state of MA passed a law that said that establishments could not:
o Offer reduced price drinks for any reason (ladies night, happy hour, this
includes 2-for-1)
o Serve a container of more x ounces (I believe 16) to one person. (No pitchers
for just one person at a table, no jumbo drinks.)
o Require a drink minimum. (i.e. 2 drink minimum) [and they may have actually
expanded it to also no dollar minimum.]
To avoid the hassle, a lot of places stopped serving pitchers and
started charging cover since they couldn't have minimums.
Some places have do have free food, or reduced/no cover and have
"happy hour" but it just isn't the same.
When I went to college in Nashville, the local "fern bar" had happy
hour every weekday 4-6 where they had 2 for one. And one of the small local
restaurants had "late night" happy hour 10-11 with half price drinks. I've
never seen late night HH anywhere else.
