I understand what you're getting at john but fail to see why the two can't be
combined. What's wrong with total enjoyment of the sensual pleasures? We are
physical beings and physical enjoyment is one of our gifts. I notice that many
of the "almost as good as" notes describe other physical activities.

Liesl, I didn't mean to imply that anything was wrong with enjoying
sensual pleasure. However, for myself, I have been questioning the
amount of energy I spend on thinking about the above, ie, going back
over old experiencese, lusting after people - most of which will never
be realized, and spending time and energy trying to have experiences,
which for me when done for the purely physical part, have not been
emotionaly satisfying and seems wrought with other problems.
I certainly think it is worth questioning how much we are conditioning
about the importance of sex in our culture. We only have so much
energy so we have to decide what to spend it on...
I find the whole concept of rating various experiences kind of
strange. What does that really mean? Maxmimum pleasure nerve ending
simulation, emotional satisfaction, "spiritual satisfaction", getting
the maximum amount of one's own personal needs and wants met? Does
that mean that what we devote our energy to what has met our needs in
the past? If life just about satisfying all our various and sundary
desires? I don't know but I'd like to find out for myself.
Though we are animals as you say, we also have the ability to make
choices on what to do while we are here. Some people have actually
chosen to rechannel their sexual energy into other areas and have
actually lived to tell about it. While I'm not one of them, I find
the concept interesting...
Anyways, just some random thoughts...
peace,
john

Sigh, given that I've been celibate for quite some time now I'm *well* aware of
sexual energy being channeled into other areas. I'm afraid I'm a hedonist in
mind only at this time. Perhaps that's slanting my perspective. :*)

| I have a friend who simply spends so much time on competitive cycling,
rock and ice climbing, caving, and working that they don't really feel
they need sex all that often - they find they can attain that "high"
naturally elsewhere and they find that relationships seem to complicate
their lives more than they contribute.....
Other alternatives might include some kind of art or creative endeavor
(music, painting, sculpture), or something physically absorbing
(climbing, horse-riding, windsurfing, skiing, etc).

Being able to laugh out loud from sheer happiness/contentment
because the little things have added up and overtaken all the really, really
bad s*&^) that has been happening lately.
Fitting into a dynamite cocktail dress in a size I haven't seen
in over 7 years and being taken to see the Phantom of the Opera and knowing I
look and feel good.
Being able to accept my aloneness enough to get off my butt and get
involved and then realizing that I've been so busy, I haven't felt alone or
unfulfilled in, you know, certain things.
And then...
Being so busy that when you finally do get the chance to hook upthis
stupid XT to an even stupider unmentionable modem and it not only works but you
figure out how to log in and connect to this wonderful
notes file and your kitty
climbs up in your lap and starts purring while your noting.
hhhhh`
Now I just have to wonder how much of this line noise and kitty interferance i
is going to wreck up my note. (Heavy sigh)

At the end of a long day, and after a gym workout, a shower that is
so HARD that you have to curl your toes into the tiles to stop it
pushing you out of the stall.
A shower that makes you gasp.

Rollercoasters
360-degree theaters, especially the ones that do nifty things like

| An article in the January issue of Discover magazine begins:
"Rainbows, the northern lights, good sex -- all nothing" said a
Virginia Beach resisdent after the 1970 [total solar] eclipse there.
"Nothing compares with totality."
Witnessing a total solar eclipse is something I dreamed of as a child.
It's a dream that has not yet come true. I was 17 and about to
graduate high school in 1970. I lived just outside Washington, DC.
just a 5 or 6 hour drive to the path of totality. My mother refused to
let me ride down with the guys in the Science Club. I had to settle
for 98%. Even after 21 years it's something I just can't forgive her
for. I suppose she was afraid I'd have sex with the Science Club. Get
serious! These guys were such nerds, they wouldn't have known what to do
with me. And besides who could think about sex with an eclipse going
on?
Hmmmmm... sex during a total solar eclipse. WOW! The thought of it
boggles the mind (and other parts of the body too)

I don't think it was total in Cuba in '70. I hear it's gotta be total
to be better than sex.
Yeah, there is gonna be one July 11, 1991 in Hawaii and Baja. I'd love
to go, but I hear everythings been booked up already for Baja which
will be the best place to view it. But this could be my last chance.
There won't be another one in North America until August 21, 2017.

| Yep, snow, in July. It was only a squall; the upper air was
cold enough even though the flakes melted at ground level. The
lower regions got no snow at all, we were lucky to be on a hilltop.
The weather in the Fingerlakes is weird. The lakes (which run roughly
north-south) funnel the cold down from Canada.
You can also see the Northern Lights in Ithaca, sometimes. Well,
not from town, but from the hills around it.

| Yes, I agree that sex done properly is magikal. In fact it is used as a
rite in some spells and as a celebration during some rituals. This is
different. This appears to have been a gift from the Goddess and as
such was spontaneous to the humans involved.

| trickey, I haven't seen your name here before, so it's likely you did not see
my complaints about my kids' killer nasty scratching vicious bunnies. Ok, their
fur is soft and fluffy, but the rest of them is not so nice.
They do generate lots of good garden fertilizer.
One of our two seems to be allergic to hay. Yes, to its primary source of
dietary roughage. It got pretty sick, with cold-like symptoms, for a while; the
only good effect of that is that it was too sick to resist being handled, and
(finally!!!) got used to it somewhat. You can pet the bunny without it trying
to assert dominance over your hand with its teeth.
Now the northern lights, *they* are almost as enjoyable as sex.
