great sandy ciccolini, who drank me under the table; and our own
nancy bittle, who set up a dinner at amory's at which event i met
a number of dear people.

| The first noter I ever met was Steve Eagles Thompson, but it was
because of a string of replies in human_relations, where I offered to
buy him a drink because he thought I sounded unfriendly, or angry, or
bitter, or *something*. I can't remember exactly what it was about
now. It was 4 1/2 yrs. ago. Later the same evening, I met Mary Pare,
Bonnie Reinke and the infamous, but charming, Kerry Faulkner.
Now I'm trying to remember who I met next. I think the next noters I
met must have been the ones who attended the first womannotes party
that Bonnie organized because of our correspondence. I can remember
meeting Liz Augustine at that.
Of course, in a way, the first noter I ever met was Rik Sawyer, because
I met him before I had ever heard of notesfiles, and he was the person
who told me about womannotes. I remember he said, As a matter of fact
there's a notesfile you might find interesting....

since he was chief architect of the group I joioned, then Tamzen Cannoy
and then later Nancy Bittle, Maggie Tarbet and Margaret Russell.
A pretty good initiation, in retrospect, wouldncha say!
Last week was teriffic -- I met *so* many great folks at the =wn=
parties. It's so much better to know the people behind the names! For
example, I found out that "bean sidhe" is Gaelic for "banshee" which I
thought was so very appropriate for a bean-counter... :-)

| It was 1985 and when SEXCETERA was up and mature Noters were noting. I
was intrigued (who wouldnt be). Thru that notes file and others I
noticed Gale Kleinberger was a name that appeared often. She was
working in my group at the time. She was the first 'noter' that I met.
Soon a group of noters got together occassionally for lunch. That is
how I met my husband. He was also a noter in the building.
Ill always be grateful to Gale for that.
Thanks! Judy

of the files I was reading at the time! Me, being a novice, read-

My first Noter's party was almost two years ago (April) for
Andy Leslie at the Commonwealth Brewery. That's when I met MikeZ,
Jerry Eckert, Mike Foley and scads of other people.

John wcsm::germano, Jim wcsm::daly, that first night. Joel and I
roomed together for a year and a half, and Chuck was the person who
told me about the open rec and encouraged me to interview for the

had made POETS, so they were the first folks from =wn= I met. Following
that, I met a huge group (over 70 people) in April '89 in Washington for

Catherine, Anne Marie, Annie, Liz, Pat, Marilyn, Les, David, ... and

| The first noters I met were at the comic shop in Nashua, that I
frequent. I never got their names and couldn't recognize them if they
walked up to me now. The only ones from WOMANNOTES are D_CARROLL
(dbang) and Justine Sullivan at the concert at ZKO. I'd still like to
be able to spend more time talking with them and with others in this
file. I understand a lot of us were mystery personages at that concert,
to bad. Bonnie Rienke and I have tried twice now to meet and no luck.
I promise someday Bonnie.
The only other NOTER was a person not from this file, but from one I
know longer frequent. She's in CXO and came East for a training course.
We have been electronic friends and phone friends here and outside of
work for a couple of years now. Anyway when she was East, she came to
Hudson, N.H., where I live, and we went to dinner. So far she is my
closest NOTER friend.

but he introduced me to NOTES and noting, and also married me (though I

think Ron counts, then Maggie Tarbet and Marge Davis Hallyburton were the
first noters I met -- at From All Walks of Life 1989.

Sherry Litasi at a party she threw in my honor. The day after that,
I got to know Ken Stewart from FRIENDS. We share the same birthday

Jim Mackin interviewed me (I didn't take the job) and I also had met
Jody Bobbitt. And there's probably a lot of other noters I met not
knowing they were noters. Just after I started noting the first noter
I met was =maggie. I was so new to =wn= at the time I didn't realize
who she was until afterwards. (=maggie do you even remember? Kathy

The first time I had the opportunity to meet any =wn='ers was at
a party held at Amory's last year for Joe White. I remember getting
up the guts to go by myself, even though I had just come out of
the read-only closet. I followed a man through the door, to find out
later that he was the guest of honor! Nancy Bittle shepherded me
into the door. I sat with Martin Minow, D!, Sharon Walker, Jerry
Boyajian, Jim Mackin, and Nancy B. I remember Jody passing around
a picture of her in chain mail, which I never got to see. I also
talked with Brian Hetrick for a few minutes. I had a wonderful time
and it was so great to be able to associate the names with the faces.

| The first individual I met who notes is Peter Conklin, when he managed
an engineering group in Merrimack and I served as his CSSE rep. Peter
still hosts the machine for the DIGITAL notes conference.
In 1985, Steve "Eagle" Thompson was the first person I met as a result
of noting. Together, we attended a Soapbox party at Corky Towle's and
met lots of other 'boxers and denizens of the MaDhOuSe (WhoAreYou). At
early netparties, I met Don Topaz, edp, Sandy (Tortorino) and Andy
Fraser, Jerry Boyajian, Jim Burrows, Simon Szeto, DTL, Steve Lionel,
Alfred Thompson, *** Kristy ***, Tom Blinn, Dennis Hagarty, Tamzen
Cannoy, Gina Bliudnikas, Kevin Burns, Mike Ryan, Mike Foley, Andy
Leslie, Christine Quiriy, Lorna St. Hilaire, Jenna (Bahama Mama) and
Red Newsham, /john Covert, Joe Mozer, Len and Deena Segal, Gale
Kleinberger, Peter "Q" Quodling, Nisreen Sunaa and Steve Hird, Roger
Goun, REK, Mike (Snake) Hughes, et al. I believe the first
womannoter I met was Liesl Kolbe at a Notes DIG, Digital Interest
Group, function at IDECUS. I also met my good friend, Joyce LaMotte,
through notes.
Noting brought together a number of couples I know, and I credit notes
with introducing me to my husband, John Hallyburton. John read the
OTHG, Over The Hill Gang, party notice in Singles; I read it in
NetParty, and we met there in May '87.

state that I have a habit, (good, bad? You decide) of calling up some
of the people who write to me and viceversa, off line. It helps me when
I read their notes and letters. It's fun to read a note in the writer's
voice. (in my mind) I try not to be a pest and a couple of us have
become "phone chums" that way. At work at least. Maybe this should be

later became a noter and who is still a noter was Mauritz Fredriksen.
He hired me, so I met him before I joined DEC, which means in early
October, 1969. The first person I ever met who later became a noter
in Womannotes was Arun Sankar; we joined DEC at the same time:
mid-October 1969. (When she reads this will be the first she is
aware of it, however, since I was married and using my married name
at the time.) The first person I ever met who later became a noter
in Womannotes with whom I have interacted was Jim Burrows. We met
at Boskone 8, which means in late April of 1971. The first person
I ever met who later became a noter in Womannotes with whom I have
interacted and who is still active in Womannotes is Jerry Boyajian.
We met a few hours later at Boskone 8, during the seminar with Larry
Niven and Hal Clement.

I first met after I became a Womannoter, and like that.

The first =wn=er I met? It was at a party two and a half years ago, at
