535.0. "those 3 letter words" by ASABET::RAINEY () Fri Nov 16 1990 08:44

    RE: YUPPY::DAVIESA

Per your request, I will do my best to define the three letter
    words!

FWO-this designation means that the base author requests replies
from women ONLY. This is not enforcable in my opinion, but
is simply a courtsey request which most people (regardless
of their personal feelings on this type of note) have honored.

FGD-this is set up to immediately follow an FWO note. This allows
for general discussion and participation from all members.

FMO-this designation means that the basenote author requests replies
from men ONLY. This is not enforcable in my opinion, but is
simply a courtesy request which most people will hopefully
honor. I am not positive as to whether the moderators have
stated that this type of note will be allowed. I thought the
jury was still out on this, so, to see if this is a moot issue
or not, you might want to get in touch with one of the mods.
I do think this type of note was the result of the enabling of
        FWO notes.

SRO-this is asking for sensitive replies only. I believe that the
moderators are empowered to remove any notes in this topic which
may be considered insensitive. I'm not sure who makes that call-
perhaps another question for the mods if you are interested.

I hope this helps! Did I miss any 3 letter words? If you need
help with the 4 letter ones, let me know ;-) !

    Thanks Christine!

If we develop any more TLA's hopefully the inventor will enter them here.

And thanks for the offer, but I'm getting plenty of inspiration
from the conference concerning 4-letter words, TYVM!
    ;-) ;-)

Ok this is not a three letter word, but I can't seem to figure it out.
What does SO mean! Everytime I see it and sit and think what the heck
are they talking about. Geez, maybe its me and the late hours I keep
my brain is not functioning right...Idunno...help..

    Deb,

I know what you mean - I encountered IEG in one of the other
conferences tonight. My brain took a brief stab at it and
then gave up. But as a confirmed night-person, I keep telling
myself that's it's not the late hours but the night (Monday!.)

    SO - I think :-) - means "Significant Other."

    Yup - you've got it.

"Significant Other" - a term used to describe someone's partner without
being gender specific or making assumptions re: marriage etc.

And it's also handily shorter to type than most of the other varients.

Gyns means the same thing as Gals, but it hasn't yet become
    non-PC.

Gyns means the same as "guys" for those who think "guys" is sexist.
