| There was an article in a Woman of Power issue (probably 2 years ago)
of a woman who had conceived with artificial insemination. I was
impressed that it had taken somewhere in the range of 13-20 attempts to
give success.
Actually, the article was a lovely one about giving birth at home. You
might try to find it.

| hI,
I have a friend who is trying this route also. She has been
unsuccessful since January 1990, after six months they ran many,
MANY tests, they found her tubes blocked and something else (can't
remember) anyways after having the procedure to unblock her tubes
and surgery to correct the other problem, she should be able to
start the procedure again next month. She once commented to me
that some of the women that were there when she went knew of some
women who were successful after 3 months and some were still going
after two years.

| Ellen, I have written quite a bit about my experiences in PARENTING (both
the current version and the one past). There is a wealth of information
there.
I tried AI for a year before getting pregnant. I was on 50 mg of Clomid,
doing Basal temp charting, ovulation kits, etc. Finally I told my doctor
to get the testing done all at once, and he put me under and did the
laporoscopy and xxxx insuflation, etc. He couldn't find anything wrong
except for a cyst and a hormone inbalance. The hormones were killing the
sperm as soon as they got in my body. He drained the cyst and said he
didn't know what was wrong, and when I asked him he admitted that it *could*
have been the cyst, but probably not. He wanted to up my dosage of Clomid
and wait a month to try again, but we tried again because it was scheduled
for my spouse's birthday. It worked.
Now we are trying to get her pregnant. We have tried twice, and are awaiting
the results on the second try. We should know early next week whether
or not this one "took".
I believe the AVERAGE is 3-4 months, so you have plenty of time yet. I know it
is a drag; all of the ups and especially the downs. However, the chances are
good that you will get pregnant soon. If you are in your mid to late thirties
(or older) then you might want to start testing in 3 months or so if you
haven't gotten pregnant. If you are younger then they might prefer that you
wait a year.

| Jack Cohen is one of the world's top reproductive biologists.
A few months ago I heard several talks he gave (and got to speak
with him afterwards). One of the things he mentioned is that
the failed-to-get-or-maintain-a-pregnancy rate, for mature women
(that means you), is 70%, so three months is nothing.
