499.0. "*wm* - lite: What Costume Did Charles Haynes Wear?" by BOLT::MINOW (Cheap, fast, good; choose two) Thu Nov 01 1990 10:28

The one and only purpose of this note is to guess what Charles Haynes
wore to this year's Hallow'een party. You may recall that he's won
the prize for best costume several years in a row, and that a few
years ago showed up at work in full-scale Rocky Horrow Picture
Show drag (6-inch spike heels, net stockings, and all the trimmings).

Rules: no fair answering if you know.

Prize: the satisfaction of a job well done.

Martin.

Since little kiddies are running around as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
and Bart Simpson is too obvious, we must turn to the world of politics
for our answer.

This year, Charles went to the party dressed as Jessie Helms.

And, not *any* Jessie Helms, either. This Jessie Helms was as
if he were photographed by Robert Mapplethorpe.

The specifics are left to your imagination.

And what role did Kai play?

My guess: Charles went as the Little Mermaid, with Kai as Sebastian the
hermit crab (of "Under the Sea" fame.)

This is silly... anyway those interested in knowing the answer but not willing
to wait should look in OXNARD::USER$3:[HAYNES]COSTUME.TXT for the answer. I'll
post it here when things die down.

I know that I wrote to you, so I can't guess, but does the fact
that someone else who saw you wrote and told me also count?

She said you were spectacular and she loved your hair.

Twist my arm just a little harder... wait! wait! Don't go away! I'll tell you!

I was wearing my black leather pants my chains and a black leather collar. Kai
was wearing his black Levis DiaperWrap a black leather pyramid stud belt,
black leather armbands, a small black leather whip, and he was holding the end
of a leash attached to my collar. Neither of us was wearing a shirt. It was way
cool.

I got a number of shocked stares (which is what I live for after all) a few
people laughing hysterically (mostly parents) and a significant number of
people who said "that's *great*!" (my friends). A couple of people said
"That's child abuse!" to which I replied "You've got it backwards..."

Kai was adorable as usual.

P.S. Warning - somewhat explicit but funny story follows. If you are offended
by common names for human body parts or alternative sexual practices, stop
reading NOW!

You were warned.

You might be wondering where you get black leather belts and arm bands for six
month olds. Even San Fransisco leather stores don't commonly carry them. :-) I
considered buying a "Leather Bear" or "Biker Bear" and using the things from
them for it, but couldn't find one on short notice. (Leather Bear and Biker
Bear are large [Gund?] teddy bears sporting the appropriate leather accessories.
They are available in finer leather stores everywhere - well in S.F. at least.)
Anyway, it turns out that the larger collars make a decent belt for a six
month old (some people into leather have BIG necks) the arm bands were leather
C*ck rings. Buying all this was hilarious, because I had Kai with me to make
sure everything fit. The clerk in S (A leather store in the Castro) was really
great! She didn't even bat an eye and was VERY helpful in finding things that
would work. (I think some of the other customers were a little surprised to
see a baby in S though...)

At the party I got two comments about the arm bands. One woman, very nice person
asked "What *are* those?" I replied "Don't ask questions you don't want to
know the answer to. If you don't already know *I'm* not going to tell you."
(Which is a lie - I did tell her. :->) The other comment, which almost had me
rolling was "What are you doing with *two* of those?" This was from a man who
I've occasionally noticed wearing "one of those" to work - on his wrist. My
comment when I first saw it was to say with slightly raised eyebrows

"I don't usually wear mine to work..."

P.P.S. What *am* I going to do with "two of those"? :-) :-) I'm sure I'll think
of SOMETHING.

Sounds quite delectable to me Charles!

You did say that you were an exhibitionist, right? ;-)

I like seeing "cult" equipment around in day to day life - sort of
quietly helps break down some taboos, maybe...fancy dress parties are a
great forum for this.....I have some beautiful leather handcuffs that I
have used with fancy dress for years....they've started more
    conversations than I can remember!

re: .5:

See, I did guess right: Charles did dress up as Jessie Helms as photographed
by Robert Mapplethorp. (Or maybe it was Kai who dressed that way...)
