482.0. "The "She" Generation?" by RANGER::PEASLEE () Mon Oct 29 1990 08:52

This article was in the Boston Globe last year, I had cut it out
for a friend and she suggested that I post it here.

The 1990s will be the "she" generation, where women can write
the scripts in the relationships with men according to Dr. Joyce
Brothers. We've been through the "me" generation; we've been through
    the "we" generation.
Brothers said Friday at the University of Missouri Hospital in
Columbia. The 1980s are the "he" generation because there are 7.3
million more marriagable women than marriagable men today, enough to
populate an entire country, Australia. But things will change in the
1990s because of the shifting population patterns she said, and there
will be 105 eligible men for every 100 eligible women. " Women will
be writing the script. They will be demanding courting. They will
demand romance. They will demand babies within marriage." The
psychologist also predicted a drop in the divorce rate during the
    1990s.

    Any comments?

I'd love to understand how the count rate of men is going to change
within 10 years. And more importantly, how the pendulum could POSSIBLY
    swing so hard.

I'm also dying to know how I can get my 5 extras...

Can anyone really manage to take Joyce Brothers seriously?

Yeah! Can I have 2 husbands then? Or maybe 7, one for every day
of the week? Can I make them get fertilized eggs implanted in their
stomach linings so that they can bear my children? (from Science News)
Will they stay home and take care of my children while I "support the
    family"? Boy, this sounds NEAT!!!

re .7, greedy, Bonnie! :-) You already have one husband and there
aren't enough men to go around!

Actually, I think that women with husbands should learn to
share! (a lot of them probably already are without knowing
it anyway!) (Of course, should *I* ever happen to remarry my viewpoint
    may change radically.) :-)

re .9, Yeah, so? Do you have a problem, or a question? :-)

Haven't you read those little surveys in the magazines that say how
many men admit to cheating on their spouses? That's what I was basing
    my comment on.
