481.0. "Name that Coffeehouse!" by SANDS::MAXHAM (Snort when you laugh!) Fri Oct 26 1990 16:10

I'm helping to get a coffeehouse (for folk music) started. The
coffeehouse will be held once a month in the basement of a Unitarian-
Universalist church in Gardner, Mass.

We're looking for a name, and I thought you folks would have
lots of good ideas. Fire away!

If one of your suggestions gets picked, you and one guest are
invited to attend the opening performance free of charge. It looks
like the opening performance will be held on either the 3rd or 4th
Saturday in January.

Kathy

By the way, I will receive no financial benefit from this
coffeehouse.

I love your ideas, everybody. Keep them coming!

The coffeehouse will be in the basement of the UU church, located
at 66 Elm Street in Gardner.

And I'll definitely post the opening date in here. It's good to
hear your interest! This is something I'm really excited and
nervous about....

Gardner is known as "Chair City" because of its furniture
production, and it seems to be the home of many people of
French Canadian descent. So how about "Musical Chairs" or
"Le Chair" or "Le Chairs?" That's about the extent of my
French, unfortunately, but I think that something with a
    French flair would be good.

    G'day,

French for chair is La chaise. as in 'chaise longe' (a chair for
    lounging in)

perhaps 'the saddle' would be right = a chair for the westerners?

the geographical name for a saddle is 'col' maybe 'col's cafe'?

    maybe 'Chaise sportive'

    or even Chay's

FLESHPOTS?! I love it, I love it - I can just see hoards of
people converging on the Unitarian Church from all sides...! (:-))

What I really had in mind was Le Chair as in Le Car and Le Bag,
as in the old Renault ads, but who will believe mme now?

I'll try to redeem myself with ...folkLure...folkCellar...folkUS
...and coffeeSpot (or Java Spot.) Now, how's that for innocuous?

I also like The Magic Moon. You could design and use such a moon
or moons for interior and /or exterior decorations.

All right, Kathy, here's what my unconscious came up with:

    	Underground Coffeehouse

Moon Palace (actually the title of a novel by Paul Auster, which I
will soon read, because it is finally in paperback)

Xanadu ("In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
    		 A stately pleasure dome decree,
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
    		 Through caverns measureless to man,
    		 Down to a sunless sea."

Does the winner get a free cup of coffee?

Thanks for all your suggestions. There were lots of good ones.
The coffeehouse committee has decided on the name, and I'm happy
to announce that the winner is a Womannoter.

The name is:

The Fresh Ground Coffeehouse, suggested by Jody Bobbitt.

See in Gardner on Saturday, January 26th, Jody!

    Jody,

Congratulations! "The Fresh Ground Coffeehouse" is a great
name - apt, original, memorable; simple, yet multi-leveled.
It also sounds nice and is easily spoken. I wish I'd thought

481.39Coffee Mugs for the CoffeehouseLJOHUB::MAXHAMRainbow FanMon Feb 25 1991 10:5620
Well, The Fresh Ground Coffeehouse has had two successful performances
to date (Catie Curtis in January, and Justina & Joyce this past
Saturday). We've had good turnouts, and we've had a lot of fun!

Justine Sullivan (who has been doing a wonderful job running the sound!)
suggested that we have some coffee mugs done up with a design and "The Fresh
Ground Coffeehouse" on them. I thought that sounded like an excellent
idea, but don't have any idea what to do to find out about doing that.
Do any of you have any leads on suppliers for me? If you've done this
type of thing before, I'd appreciate hearing what you found works
particularly well or what you'd avoid the next time. Also, I'm assuming
that this type of thing would be silk-screened. Are there other processes
that could be used as well?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Kathy
