437.0. "Romanian Children" by POBOX::SCHWARTZINGE (I'd Rather Be Shopping) Fri Oct 12 1990 10:43

    Does anyone have any idea on what is involved with adopting Romanian
    children?

    Has anyone ever adopted a "foreign" born child?

    Who, what, where do you get information, how do you start?

437.3Please, what is the problem?SAGE::GODINNaturally I'm unbiased!Fri Oct 12 1990 13:4310
    Please, I must have been asleep during whatever media coverage there
    has been about the problems being faced by Romanian children. (I do
    know about the AIDS problem caused by injecting blood to "build up
    their systems.")

    Could someone please summarize the problems that are leading to this
    recent interest in adopting Romanian children?

    Sincere thanks --

    You can write to 20/20; they are the ones who exposed first, the
    babies that are in orphanages, and last week, the older children
    who are being kept in concentration camps, naked, and starving to
    death.

    20/20 is working very hard to get all the information for Americans
    who want to help these children. They have said they will send
    out packets to whoever writes to them.

    You can also try to get in touch with Good Day...they are a show
    our of ABC in Boston...they did a show on Monday, or Tuesday
    this week (I happened to be home sick) Featuring two families that
    recently adopted children from Romania...one of the families
    organized a group that helps other families adopt these children.
    They have all of the information that you are looking for includin
    a 12 page booklet and all of the papers that you would need.

    I don't have the address but they should be willing to help.

	Perhaps this should go in the true confessions note, but... I sometimes
read People Magazine. :-) Apparently they had an article on Romanian adoption
a few weeks ago, because this was in the letter column from a recent issue:

	"Your article on our adoption of Brittany in Romania was a heartwarming
success . We've recevied calls from people offering support and many who are
interested in adopting children themselves. Please let the readers know we have
a do-it-ourself report for couples and an Adoption Agency Guide to Romania that
we would be happy to send to interested parties. Send a self-addressed,
stamped envelope to Connecting with Romanian Children, PO Box 252, Fayetteville,
NY, 13066.
