I have a problem with this survey. I don't believe I'm at all
qualified to answer whether or not Dec is a good place to work
for blacks, Native Americans, or persons with disability. I do
feel that I might be qualified to give an answer about whether it's
a good place to work for women. I have a problem with men answering
the second question, "Is Dec a good place to work for women?" and
I just *know* there's going to be some who want to answer it.
Yup, there's always at least one man out there who thinks he knows
*all* about us! And is willing to tell us *all* about it!
I didn't see anywhere on the questionnaire to state what sex, race,
etc. you are - that would have helped.
I'm sending mail to Jay with these thoughts.

| RE: .1
I think the thing to notice here is that this is a survey of Employee
*Perceptions*. I am not being asked if Digital _is_ a good place for
blacks, Native Americans, or persons with disabilities to work; I am
being asked if I _perceive_ it as a good place for these people to
work.
The two are separate and distinct. They are also both important.
There will be people who will say that this is *too* good a place for
these groups to work, and that is an issue that needs to be addressed
just as much as actual, Digital supplie working conditions. No matter
how much the company tries to make this a good place for all people to
work, if the overwhelming perception is that they do *too* much for
certain groups, a true Valuing Differences atmosphere will never be
able to be fostered.

| Unfortunately, I don't feel that I can answer this survey honestly
without getting into trouble. Not for what I've experienced, but
from what I've seen happen with other women.

Since when are women "people of difference"?
Don't answer that,

| I agree with what everybody's said so far.
Does the fact that white (as a race) and male (as a gender) are omitted
from the list of us different folks in question 2 mean that Corporate
DEC defines "different" as anybody that's NOT one??
I don't think this Survey IS answerable...

| oops. I don't agree with .4.
My people have also been here for generations but they are not native
to America. I don't have a problem with the term Native Americans any
more than I do with the term Physically Challenged.
How peoples wish to identify themselves doesn't bother me, personally.

If I put my mind to it, I don't think I could come up with a more
offensive term than "people of difference", followed by a list of who
those people are. It tells you very clearly who the norm is (the people
*not* on the list), and it labels anyone not on the list as
"different".
This is how wars get started.

| Ok, so how many of who object to the survey, the terms used and
assumptions it's based on are gonna *write the author* ?
I see validity in all the points raised. Please raise them in the
right place.
This kind of feedback, while not what he asked for, will tell him
something(s) valuable too.

| Re .11
Jay Palermo is "her", not "him". I agree that you should
send your ideas to her. I have. She may be distributing
the survey, and not be the author. However she is certainly
in the group that created the survey.
You could also modify the survey to include the categories
and questions you think appropriate and send it to her.
