Subj:	Mike and Grace

Sorry to put you to this trouble, but would like to ask you to enter the
following as an anonomous reply to note 391 in WomanNotes.

Let me know where/when to send the money!
________________________________________________________________________
I have been enjoying this file in read-only mode for over a year now. I am
very grateful for the chance to do so, the ideas discussed here have
contributed much to my own personal development as a (male) person. I have
some valid (for me) reasons to wish to remain read-only, except for this -
my single anonomous contribution.

I suspect I am not alone, and that there are many others like me, being quietly
supportive in the background.

Perhaps the time has come for us to return something to this community, and
I see a good cause here! I am pledging $10 Canadian ($8.60 U.S.) to try and
put a little Grace into Mike's life! Let me know where to send it when the
time comes.

I hope other read-only folks will accept this as a challenge! Just like those
telethon challenges. With the support of the rest of the read-only community,
we can get Mike on the plane before his rug burns heal.

Now its time for me to open up another refreshing vitamin filled can of
5-Alive juice, and get back to work.

We now have approximately $118.60 plus Gale's coupon which leaves
us with about $200 +/- to go...

and can I thank right now all the people who've written to this idea?

If nothing else it has highlighted the sense of community that I know
does exist in =wn= and the love and joy that people have for each
other, I'd been wondering if it still existed!

If for any reason Mike can't come east before Gale's coupon expires
in December, I will of course return her coupon to her. Those of
you who have sent me money can choose to either have it refunded or
contribute it to the fund to bring people to the 5th anniversary
    party next June.

and Mike and E Grace, thank you for being such good sports.

OK. I'm confused. I've got code that's got
to stop core dumping by Interop, so I haven't
read wommennotes for awhile. What's happened
between MikeV and EGrace? Are they really
trying to get together? If so, are they talking
on the phone? and most importantly, have they
discussed each others pet animals, if they have any?
(If Mike's got a cat and Grace hates cats, then the
    relationship is doomed, of course.)
And HOW/WHEN did Mike get rug burns? Did he film it?

no reason to waste the good intent. If you all are interested in
shipping people up here, now might be a good time to send mail to
    MOMCAT::PARTY if you're either:

    a) interested in attending womannotes' 5th anniversary party, happening
June 20-23 1991 (please state whether you'll need a$$istance getting
    here or not....)

    b) interested in donating tickets, two-fer-one-passes, or moneys to a
fund to help get as many people who wish to come and are in need of
    help up to the party.

And as for the 56-replies-for-nothing, there's a topic in the Joy of
Lexicography (puns, and wordplay) notesfile that's over 11,000 replies
long, and all it consists of is word-association-puns. Now *that's* a

391.60disillusionmentVAXUUM::KOHLBRENNERMon Sep 24 1990 15:0721
I wonder why I thought it was a wonderful, zany idea? and not a joke?
and why my $10 is just now arriving in Bonnie's mailbox?

It's kind of like learning the truth about Santa Claus: another
great loss of innocence. But when you learn the truth about
Santa Claus, that he doesn't exist, that you were misled by
your parents (moderators), you at least get the new belief system
that your parents were Santa Claus all along. That the same
parents who take care of every day are also taking care of your
joy at a special time of year. So the disillusionment and sense
of loss when you realize that the jolly man in the red suit doesn't
really exist is offset by a new kind of trust in "real" people,
    your parents.

I wonder what is being offered to make us gullible types feel
trusting again? When is a discussion that seems serious, or zany,
to be trusted? How can we know that the discussion leaders
aren't just chuckling to themselves? How do we know when to take
anything seriously now? How do we keep from getting cynical?

    Bill
391.61SCARGO::CONNELLReality, an overrated concept.Mon Sep 24 1990 16:2612
I am not at all disillusioned. If my money doesn't help to get Mike out
here, then it will hopefully go to a good cause as I have requested. If
that good cause is the fund to get people out here for the 5TH
ANNIVERSARY PARTY then that is find by me. If Bonnie uses it to feed
her cats(does she have cats, everyone has to have cats) then that is
fine also. This has been a lot of fun and any time I can get this many
laughs and such good feelings coming through, (my blood pressure
dropped 10 points) I consider it money well spent. So no one comes
East, so someone comes East, who cares. (except maybe E Grace and Mike)
We had fun, we felt good. That's the bottom line. Lighten up everyone.

Sorry as I am to disappoint or disillusion anyone, there was at least
one person who was getting embarrased by the direction this had
    taken.

I do want to say that I very much appreciate the fact that so many
people were seriously willing to contribute money to send me out east.
I am certainly flattered by it all. I still want to go there, and
maybe someday I'll actually be able to afford it. Unfortunately, I
think there were some issues with actually carrying out this fund
drive that some people here found bothersome. I'm sorry that this
    confusion occurred.

Well, my check is also in the mail to Bonnie. So if Barb wants to come
to the party and has stated that she would need some assistance from
this community, then why not send our pledges to Bonnie and go from
    there!

BTW, the challenge is still on for the next person who pledges $10.
    Think soothing hot tub.

Well, I don't have any 2-fer-one tickets or such, but I'll
certainly kick in $10 towards the party transportation fund.
