My UU church is having a fall fair next month, and I promised I would help out. The first thing they asked me to do was come up with ideas for activities for the children who come..... I don't have a clue, but I figured there must be womannoters with some ideas! To give you an idea of what the situation is... The theme for the fair is "Mother Goose." There probably won't be lots of kids there at any one time. (I've never been to a church fair at this church before, but my guess is that there'll probably be anywhere from 1 to 10 children there at any given time throughout the day.) Activities could take place indoors or outdoors. Any ideas for fun stuff for kiddos who get dragged along to church fairs by their parents on nice fall Saturdays? Kathy

bubbles puppets - make them out of paper bags, aux materials are scissors, colored paper, glue sticks, sequins, glitter, yarn, tape, etc masks - same as puppets, but use bigger bags play dough - send MAIL for homemade recipe (much cheaper than store brand), not poisonous but salty. Make models of MG characters (but expect lots of other themes) mural, if you have access to enough paper -- tape sheets together, or use the back of some listings (not For Internal Use Only!) Use crayons, watercolors, washable markers, see puppets above, and add collage elements paper hats, sailboats, etc made from newspaper check out the children's room of your library. Any children's room Librarian should be able to point you to lots of activity books.

Having just gone to family day at Tower Hill, Worcester Horticultural Society's place in Boylston, I would strongly suggest bubble blowing as an activity if it's a nice day. It should really be done outside, especially for big bubbles. Make a mixture of 10 parts water, 1 part Joy (or other dishwashing liquid) and 1/2 part corn syrup - put in big basin, create your own bubble thingies with strings and straws, and let them go at it. It was the big hit of the day! Other suggestions, have them make small ornaments or items that they can take home (vegetable people was one example this weekend).
