374.0. "Dream Administration - if women ruled the U.S." by COGITO::SULLIVAN (Alms for the War?) Wed Sep 12 1990 14:56

I've been quite sad about Evelyn Murphy's withdrawal from the Mass.
governor's race. To console myself last night, I started fantasizing
about the dream administration. One with all my favorite women in it.
I thought that might make a good note here. I thought about making it
a "lite" note -- you know, Shirley Muldowney for Secretary of
Transportation :-), but I think we can have some fun with this and put
    forward some serious suggestions, too.

I'm sure there are lots of progressive, pro women's rights men out there
that we might like to see in the white house, but in this note... I'd like
us to let ourselves go and imagine all our favorite women in power.

Here's a list I came up with. Since I'm feeling blue about my candidate
for governor, I (of course) included her. It's fine with me if folks come
up with different women for the same positions I've listed here in
addition to filling the top positions that I haven't filled yet.
If you nominate a woman who isn't known nationwide, you might want to
include a little bio about her. (Maybe we'll have our own election...)

Pat Schroeder - Pres.
Evelyn Murphy - Vice Pres.
Ellie Smeal - ?
Molly Yard - Chief of staff
Gloria Steinem - Sec'y of Education
Frances Moore Lapp - Sec'y of the Interior
Dr. Susan Love - Surgeon General (Dr. Love is a prominent surgeon
in the Boston area, famous for her
work with women with breast cancer.)
Barbara Jordan -- Attorney General
(my sweetie thought that Barbara Jordan should
be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but she
can put that in her own reply :-)

How about Nina Totenberg and Koki (sp?) Roberts as administration
    spokeswomen.

These women are reporters/political commentators on National Public
Radio (NPR). I often confuse them, because their voices and the topics
they cover are (to my ears) quite similar. But they're both articulate
    and insightful.

Sigourney is going to be too busy playing the Lieutenant in my fantasy
    version of _Daughters_of_a_Coral_Dawn -- the movie. :-)

                        |___A wonderful book by Katherine V. Forrest, where
a group of strong, intelligent women fly away to
an uninhabited planet and start a new world where
                            there are only women....

Justine Sullivan for Secretary of State. I'm serious. If she can
maintain her cool after what went on in here yesterday, she's got my
vote to handle worldwide diplomatic relations.
