| I could be mistaken (and I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm
wrong), but I believe that Josie Heath is the only woman running for
the U.S. Senate this year. Since this conference is *woman*notes, I
started this topic because I thought that her campaign just might
conceivably be a subject of interest to women in general, or at least
those women who reside within the U.S.
Having made that comment, I now return this notes conference to its
regularly scheduled, ubiquitous discussions about a particular election
between two male candidates for the Governorship of one of the 50
states that compose the United States.

| Well, she is way behind in the polls at this point, so it doesn't sound
like she has a chance anyway. She defeated Carlos Lucero for the
Democratic party nomination; her Republican opponent, Hank Brown, ran
unopposed in the primary. I guess tomorrow we'll see if it turns out
to be a landslide for Brown.

366.6 | Senator Nancy Kassebaum running for re-election | CLAY::HUXTABLE | Soul, renounce suffering; you have danced on the face of the sun | Tue Nov 06 1990 15:18 | 16 |
| re 366.3:
Josie Heath isn't the only one. Nancy (Landon) Kassebaum, Republican from
Kansas, is running for re-election to the U.S. Senate. She is opposed by
Dick Williams, a Democrat with no experience in public office.
As for governor's races...this year in Kansas we apparently have a choice
between "a boob with nuts and a nut with boobs." The incumbent, Republican
Mike Hayden, is almost universally unpopular, largely because of some state
economic difficulties. His opponent, Democrat Joan Finney, is strongly
supported by some pro-life groups, but has also stated that a "morning-
after Pill" or D&C is not an abortion but a way of preventing pregnancy.
Also, despite her experience as State Treasurer she seems to have very
little grasp of the realities of the state economy.
