347.0. "Community Agency Seeks Board Members" by TSGDEV::DELISLE (Fax it to me, baby!) Thu Aug 30 1990 16:05

My significant other has requested that I post the following in Women's
 Notes.

The Health Information and Referral Service is urgently seeking renewed
leadership through recruitment of new members to its Board of Directors.
HIRS is a community human service agency serving primarily the towns of
Marlboro, Hudson, Southboro, Northboro, and Westboro. It was begun in 1973
as the Women's Health Service providing medical service referrals and
 pregnancy testing.  It has expended over the years to include;
The Rape Crisis Center with a 24 hour hotline and free counseling,
       support, and advocacy.
The Teen Pregnancy and Parenting Program which provides education,
counseling, and day care to teen parents.
The Teen Health Center which provides low-cost medical treatment,
counseling, birth control, and pregnancy testing.
The Family Bereavement Program which provides counseling and support for
       the family of homicide victims.
The Child Assault Prevention Program which offers training to parents,
       teachers, and children.

As you are undoubtedly aware, human service agencies are suffering much of
the impact of the State's fiscal troubles. We are looking for board members
to help us investigate ways to continue to serve our communities with a
 shrinking budget and increasing need.

We offer the friendship and camaraderie that comes from a commitment to
helping people in need and working towards a common social goal. As a
board member you will receive recognition as a leader in helping improve
human services for our communities. The time commitment is flexible, but
would entail at least one evening per month and committee meeting.

If you are interested in possibly becoming a board member or if you are
just interested in learning more about HIRS, please call Nancye (Founding
Mother and Vice-president of the Board of Directors) 508-568-1171
