| I'd like to express my appreciation for the moderators, too. What they
deal with is purely beyond what I ever could; they exceed me, daily.
And I'm very glad they make the effort. F'rinstance- the processing
topic, where the state of the conference and inevitably, their actions
as mods, get dissected, pawed over, second guessed, and judged, on a
regular basis. Sure, it helps all of us participants make our
statements...but what a toll it must sometimes take on them! Anyway-
for this and a thousand other things, they're the best team on the net.

Gosh......I hate to rain on a parade, but I feel really awful
when I see things saying that "x is the BEST of group-y" especially
when the measurement factor for saying the best, is not performance
but rather location.
There are a whole hell of a lot of great moderators out there
in notes land.....the implications that they are somehow
"not as good as" the moderators in this conference is sad.
I say, kudos to ALL the good moderators out there in Notes land.
Many of you do a great job, and being a moderator myself, I
really respect those that are great at dealing with problems
so quickly and so well.
I can't say the moderators here are "better" than moderators
in other conferences because the atmosphere in each conference
is different......
I can only wish that I will someday be as "good" as many of
you.

You misunderstand - the mods here are being congratulated and
hugged precisely for their performance (which is made all the
more difficult by their location.)
> ...the implications that they are somehow "not as good as"
> the moderators in this conference is sad.
No, it's not. Recognitions of excellence are separate awards
- they take nothing away from anyone else who is also doing a
good job.
> I can only wish that I will someday be as "good" as many of
> you.
"Good" is used in the sense of excellence - it's not a level
of human worth in this context. No one is saying others have
less worth as human beings than anyone else.
It shouldn't make you sad to see so many people love and appreciate
their moderators. It's a personal expression of support that the
mods here have earned.
It's cause for celebration!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I read the following as referring
to the =wn= moderators only.
> Our moderators are the best in Digital. Hands down.
It's my feeling that this implies that other moderators in
Digital are "not as good as" the =wn= moderators. There are
a hell of a lot of moderators out there that do their job to the
best of their abilities and they get a lot of harrassment for
doing so. Very RARELY, in fact, do moderators ever get "kudos"
for doing what's right.
Comments like this just add to harrassment.
People might feel that the =wn= moderators are great, but they
are not "the best" to the exclusion of all others that do their
job to the best of their ability and as fairly as possible.
Reading comments like the above one is really a shot in the
gut to those of other conferences that try always to do their
best.

>> Our moderators are the best in Digital. Hands down.
Excellence Awards often have statements indicating that their
recipients are "the best" at what they do. Such recognition
is a positive thing, Kath.
> It's my feeling that this implies that other moderators in
> Digital are "not as good as" the =wn= moderators.
If you recognize Excellence elsewhere, you're free to offer it.
I won't complain to you about it, I promise.

The Womannotes moderators have always enjoyed a high level of support
from the community here - which they've earned. They go farther than
any mods I've ever seen when it comes to allowing the members to help
shape conference policy (accomplished through conference voting.)
> Comments like this just add to harrassment.
Remember, you're not talking to a single group of people that floats
from file to file. This is a unique community - our support of the
mods is a well-deserved appreciation that we are allowed to express.
> People might feel that the =wn= moderators are great, but they
> are not "the best" to the exclusion of all others that do their

Well, it's my opinion that they are "the best" - but this doesn't
mean that no other moderators in DEC do their moderating jobs well.
> Reading comments like the above one is really a shot in the
> gut to those of other conferences that try always to do their
> best.
When a note is cited in the Hall of Fame, does it also make you
feel as though all other noters in DEC are not "as good" as the
ones receiving such honors? Is it the same shot in the gut?
Recognizing excellence is a positive thing - it's a genuine vote
of thanks from the people who benefit from the contributors' work.
It's a cause for celebration!

Please don't fight over us. I certainly appreciate the praise many

No, Justine. That's not my point. My point is that there are ways
to praise people without trashing others.
My main objection was toward Suzanne's comment about you "being the best
in Digital, hands down". When, in fact, the same statement could have been
made without casting a negative image on those not in the "favoured"
group.
Sometimes i think that we just get so wrapped up in the good things going
on in our life that we sort of ignore the fact that other things around
us are just as good.....
I'm not explaining myself well, as usual. I think I'll stop right here.

| RE: .35 Kath
My honest-to-God opinion is that the moderators here are the best
in Digital. I base this opinion on my view of their performance
(as well as the trials to which they are subjected month after
month.)
My positive expression of support for these moderators does not
trash anyone else, just as the rest of the world isn't trashed
when my son tells me I'm "the best" or I tell someone else I
admire that s/he's "the best."
Sorry if most other conferences don't dedicate separate topics
to express appreciation for the good work done there. However,
having such topics here doesn't amount to trashing anyone else.
There's no way I would refrain from praising someone out of fear
that others might not like it - especially when the persons I'm
addressing are doing such an outstanding job.
