hmmmm....tough one...the things I first thought of--Plimoth plantation,
freedom trail, etc, all require lots of walking...
so, how about the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston? you and one of
your folks could get in free with DEC badge, then I think its $6.00
for adults. They have Wheelchairs, so your mom could be easily
moved around the museum that way.
Then there's the Christian Science center downtown, neat church, free
tours, not too much walking.
And of course Trinity church by the Hancock tower...again free, and
not too much walking...check out the beautiful stained glass by
John LaFarge.
The trolley tours of town are good. Catch them in a variety of
places around Fanueil Hall/Aquarium. Don't know the cost.
that's all for now! enjoy!

| Try and catch the shows at the Science Museum. Also many museums rent
wheel chairs. You can push your mom around and see most of the
exhibits.

Thanks for the suggestions! The science museum and Museum of
Fine Arts are 2 good possibilities.
I forgot to add that my mother _refuses_ to be put in a
wheelchair! This has always been the case from day 0 -
literally - She had me when she was 40 years old, and
I have a picture of her holding me and _walking_ out of
the hospital (violating hospital procedures) when she was
discharged.

| There are also lots of museums/exhibits related to the American
Revolution (shot heard 'round the world, Cradle of Liberty, all that
stuff) in the Lexington/Lincoln/Concord area (in fact, they're peppered
pretty much all along the "Battle Road" - which follows 4/225 for a bit
in Lexington, follows 2A through Lincoln, and goes on into the Concord
Bridge, I think).
The Worcester Art Museum may also be cool if you want to be able to
catch small amounts of excellent art from the various artists/periods
throughout the world's recorded history - it's smaller and cozier than
the MFA, although less thorough when it comes to sheer volume of art
from the various periods.....
And I think Nashoba Valley Winery may be starting to allow
fruit-picking (peach? strawberry? raspberry? - not sure), and of course
there's always wine-tasting there.....

I'll try to think of more. In the mean time, check out the "Cheap
stuff to do" note in the Massachusetts conference. (hit Keypad 7
to add to your notebook). I can't remember the note number, but
doing a dir/title=cheap oughta do it (if I remember the title
correctly). There's LOT'S of suggestions there!

331.9 | Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum | BOLT::MINOW | Cheap, fast, good; choose two | Mon Aug 27 1990 13:53 | 11 |
| Try to get to the Gardner museum. Although the stairs can be daunting,
there is an elevator (though you might have to ask one of the guards
for assistance).
Call first, and try to go when they have a concert scheduled (Sunday,
Tuesday, and Thursday, as I recall).
Also, they have an *excellent* caf -- a wonderful place for lunch or
a snack.

331.10 | Tangelwood | RAMOTH::DRISKELL | waiting for day AFTER Xmass.... | Mon Aug 27 1990 17:15 | 20 |
| Friday thro mon is a Jazz festival at tanglewood. If i wasn't
already going to the cape I'd be there! You can bring a
pic-nic & sit on the grounds, or book ahead & get a 'seat'.
Lots of people drive around the mtns during fall folliage, but
summer is lovely too. Go into south-western NH, and there are
a couple of covered briges that are known for their flowers.
'Course, this is shoppers paridise time for people who like
flea markets & yard sales. I'd just pick a likely road ,
enjoy the scenary, and stop whereever there looks to be
interesting stuff to be had!
Then there are the beaches, & islands, (block island off
point judeth, is not too far from east/central mass,
and makes a great day trip... specially if you go on a weekday
after labor day.
enjoy,

Nancy, I didn't see this note at first! You gotta warn me before you
go around telling folks what I like... besides, that's not what size I
own.
Nine feet, indeed. I'd be running in the other direction! Sounds like a

Eh? What's this about a nine-foot vibrator? never seen one o' those. i did,
however, see my first 5 foot vibrator during my recent trip to Good Vibrations
in SF. Handy device to have around.
So, what *would* Dbang think of it?

Well, you should try de-dyking your house (or my house :-) sometime
in preparation for a family visit. Fortunately, I stopped trying
years ago. It seems that you always forget something, so you may
as well just let them see your space as it really is.
It was hard not to chuckle, though, as I followed my aunt's eyes
around our room when I gave her a house tour the other day. She looked
at one poster then another and then at the floor...

I survived too, Joyce, thanks ;-).
My Mom only strongly hinted about maybe I should get married soon
twice, and my Dad only told me once that my haircut was
inappropriate for a "girl" :-).
Besides that, it was actually very pleasant. We went to
Shelbourne Falls (Bridge of Flowers, candlestick factory, etc.,
in a quaint old town, had dinner in the restaurant overlooking
the bridge that had some excellent vegetarian dishes),
Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury (happened to be there on a
Wednesday night around 7:30 when their fife and drum militia
walks through - my mom surprised me by being able to play the
drums like they did! She was such a flirt, too :-), Boston
Museum of Science, Newbury St. shopping, played cards and
dominoes till 3 AM, etc...
And they didn't find anything I didn't want them to (I think) ...
:-).
And Joyce, I'm sure you were a wonderful parental unit host :-)!!

Don't feel bad, Nancy. When I visited my parents last July, my mother
(not so subtly) hinted that she thought my hair was too long. At one
point, she even grabbed the back of my hair, twisted it around to my
mouth, and said, "Eat it." :-)
