    I watched CNN at noon today and saw the tape with Saddam with Western
    kids.  I was struck by alot of things in the tape.
    
    First, how the presence of Western Hostage Kids and Saddam in the same
    room STRUCK me.  It brought tears to my eyes because of the innocence
    of the kids vs. Saddam.  (I think this had a different effect on me
    that Saddam would have hoped for).
    
    Second, how the apparent kindness they showed toward the Hostages
    turned my stomach because I yearned for it to be true but couldn't
    believe it. 
    
    Also, the 7 year old boy who at the beginning stood beside Saddam was
    so obviously ill at ease (as he should have been). My heart went out
    to him and all the Hostages.  I pray they live through
    this.
    
    An "aide" stood behind Saddam and caressed the boy who didn't seem to
    mind.  But, because of the context it made my skin crawl. The aide
    seemed to be expressing genuine affection as he may well have been.
    Saddam probably picked people who would convey genuine kindness for 
    the taping. 
    
    As a propaganda effort the tape was well done.  But the CONTEXT
    certainly  DESTROYED its effectiveness as far as I am concerned.

	I think our local paper had the right portrayal of that man and his modus operandi last night: the editorial page had a cartoon. On the left side was an American soldier with a machine gun in a bunker made of sand bags. On the right side was Saddam Hussain with a machine gun, in a bunker made of men, women, and children, roped together. That particular dictator makes my skin crawl! Ugghhhhh!!!! /Charlotte

	God - I saw the tapes on network news. The sight of the children (especially the very little ones who were elsewhere in the room) brought me to tears. Standing in the presence of the man who wants Iraqis to eat fallen pilots, it's absolutely sickening to think of this man near children. This whole situation gives me the creeps. God help us all.

	yup, the man's a genuine creep. wish I felt good about any of our options... situations like this are why presidents age much more than is accountable by elapsed time

	on a slightly lighter note: Saddam was put on the "Suck Wall" on radio channel 94.5 this morning.
