223.4 | DECworld Employee Day is a Flop for Parents | CADSE::REHM | Laissez les bons temps rouler! | Mon Jul 02 1990 14:03 | 22 |
| Well, those of use who have children in day care/camp this summer
who don't take the company-approved buses won't be attending
DECworld '90 Employee Day.
The official policy of Corporate Employee Services and Recreation
is (paraphrasing):
"If you don't take the DEC bus, you don't get in."
Unfortunately, the DEC bus leaves at 7:45 a.m., and leaves, in my
case, from a town 10 miles in the opposite direction to Boston.
Day camp for my daughter starts at 8:00 a.m.
For more info and similar tales, see HELPME::PARENTING note 45.0.
I encourage others in the same situation to call Corporate
Employee Services and Recreation at dtn 251-1311 and ask them
to change this policy. Please ask for Sheila Fantozzi (SOCIAL::FANTOZZI).

223.5 | ...and a flop for Bostonians | CADSYS::PSMITH | foop-shootin', flip city! | Mon Jul 02 1990 14:19 | 25 |
| For me to take the bus, I will have to:
o drive 1 hour west from Boston to Marlboro
o get on the bus at 7:30 am at MRO4
o ride the bus back 1 hour east from Marlboro to Boston
o repeat in reverse at 4:00, meaning I get home FROM BOSTON TO BOSTON
in two hours.
I've talked to Corporate Employee Services, and there is apparently "no
way" they can a) give me my sticker early, b) let me meet the MRO bus
at the World Trade Center and get my sticker from the driver, or c) let
me ride a bus from the Boston site.
I understand needing to have controls when you have this many people
attending, but if they can be flexible for customers, what is the big
deal about being a little flexible (if there is a need) for employees?
Disappointed at CESR's _attitude_,
Pam
P.S. There's also a discussion of it in HUMAN::DIGITAL, in the
DECworld note. Apparently a lot of people are complaining -- I talked
to Barbara Davis, at 251-1104, and their phones have been ringing off
the hook for a week about this issue.

area, (tho until I talk to the man who offered it to me I'm not
at all sure what I'll be doing). Anyway I'll be there as a volunteer
from the 23rd to the 27th.

I'm glad you were able to work something out!
However, I just talked with Sheila -- she said yours was a special case
that had been worked out and they couldn't do this for everyone.
There is "no way" they can let me have my ticket early so I don't have
to leave Brookline at 6:30 to get to the MRO4 bus by 7:30 am.
It is apparently a committee that has made the decision to take a rigid
stand on this issue.
