Tom Christo (R) -------- Proponent
Jim Donchess (D) ------- Proponent
Durkin (D) ------------- Has changed mind -- now "proponent"
Rauh (D) --------------- Proponent
For various districts of the State Senate:
Gordon Humphrey (R) ---- Known opponent

| Just great... another person who will vote on the subject of choice
only... what about the other issues? Or do they even count?
Just like here in Mass. Murphy is one of the biggest village idiots
ever to hold office here in Mass.. But she is pro-choice so that makes
here the *BEST* person for Guv... WHat the HELL has she done while
being Lt. Guv.. NOTHING SQUAT!! Now look at the state and its
finacial mess.. and the Mass voters want the same crap to continue?
REK
The voters better start looking at all the issues and not just the
choice issue.....

161.3 | The opponents come out every first Saturday... | PROXY::SCHMIDT | Thinking globally, acting locally! | Tue May 29 1990 13:01 | 12 |
| The first Saturday of every month, the local right-to-life folks
demonstrate at the monument at the top of Library Hill in Nashua.
(These are the *exact* same folks who just protested the Nashua
School Board's program of AIDS education for 7th graders. I leave
you to draw your own conclusions.)
Saturday, June 2nd is the first Saturday, and I'd dearly love to
drive by and see some sort of counter-demonstration, or to be
invited to participate in a counter-demonstration. (I don't
believe I'm well-enough connected to set anything up by myself.)

Go back and read my reply again. I never offered any such advice.
But you can be *DAMNED* sure I'll consider CHOICE and all of the
related "status of women" issues as I make my decisions.

| Mark:
I have no interest in starting a war (not that I culd "start" this
one -- I think it has already been "declared"). But I do have an
interest in seeing that the facts are widely disseminated. By
"FACT", I mean a candidate's self-stated position, either by
words or by deed (voting record).

| REK, since most politicians (oh heck, all of 'em) have the
consistency of New England soil from one issue to the next,
you generally have to choose which issue means the most to
you and vote that issue. For most folks here, that issue
is reproductive rights.
Me, I'd like to find a candidate who supports individual rights
'across the board' but I'm not holding my breath.

| Sorry, I should have worded that differently.. I meant was a person who
would/will only vote on the choice issue...

Sorry, that was my fault. I deleted my own note asking Atlant if he
wanted to get into yet another war since political discussions seem to
be the most heated discussions.
I am grateful that you have takenthe trouble to point out both sets
of politicians, rather than "those who oppose" (like my prose?).
In a way, it provides balance for those who disagree with .0 and can
let this note continue on its stated biased objective. (By the way,
having a bias is not bad - in fact, it is better than having no ground
on which to stand.)
As for me, I live in NH and you can read my voting record in the national
elections in another note. That is my bias, and that is my *choice*.
Friendly smiles.
Have at it Atlant!
Mark Metcalfe
P.S. If I decide to make this the only issue, your notes will come in
very handy! Thanks.
More friendly smiles! :-)

string? We'll do that tomorrow if not.

161.11 | Today's a deadline... | PROXY::SCHMIDT | Thinking globally, acting locally! | Tue Jun 05 1990 12:23 | 13 |
| Today is the last day to change your declared party affiliation
in time for the upcoming primary elections. If you change to
"INDEPENDENT", you'll be able to select on the day of the primary
election which party's primary you'ld like to vote in.
While this may seem like a sleezy tactic, it's well-demonstrated that
many of the folks who routinely cast ballots in the Democratic primary
would never consider casting vote for the Democrats in the general
election. Up to this year, I have no idea if anyone did this in the
opposite direction, but the Christo-versus-Smith race for the Republican
Senate nomination seems to be motivating some in that direction.

| WEVO (NH Public Radio, FM 89.1) did an interview this morning with
one of the candidates running for the District 17 seat in the NH
State Senate. The interview will probably be re-broadcast this
afternoon on the "NH Daily" show between 5:00 and 5:30 pm. I
think District 17 is in the area of the Seacoast, but if you're
in it, you probably know.
Ms. Parker (?) sounded like the only declared Democratic candidate
for the seat, and is strongly in favor of reproductive rights.
It sounded like the Republican side has two contenders:
o Mr. ??? Sherburn -- in favor of reproductive rights
o Gordon Humphrey --- Opposed to nearly every aspect of repro-
ductive rights and damned proud of it.

| Bill Johnson is leaving the District 17 seat in the NH State Senate
in order to run for the U.S. Congress. District 17 is in the area
east of Concord.
Barbara Parker (of Epsom) appears to be the only declared Democratic
candidate for the seat, and is strongly in favor of reproductive rights.
The Republican side has two contenders:
o Jack Sherburne (of Deerfield) ----- in favor of reproductive rights
o Gordon Humphrey (of Chichester) --- Opposed to nearly every aspect
of reproductive rights and
damned proud of it.

| Meanwhile, on the coast, Frank Torr (of Dover), the Republican in-
cumbent for the District ?? NH State Senate seat, will be challanged
by Jeanne Shaheen (of Madbury). Both are proponents of reproductive
rights.
