since i am fortunate enough to live and work in an environment
where i can and do wear whatever i want, my 'inner vision' of myself
is already my 'outer vision'. on the other hand, the 'real me' is
a symphony orchestra conductor, a vocation that has it's own
traditional mode of dress, not suitable for everyday wear. i do
wish i got to wear it more often.

| As in the court of Charles II. Particularly as in portraits of John
Wilmot, Earl of Rochester (; >,). I have a black velvet jacket, frilly
shirt, tight blue slacks, and pair of boots with which I occasionally
try to fake it.
Failing that, my Converse All-Stars, blue jeans, Love & Rockets (comix
not band) t-shirt, and black leather jacket will do jes fine.

| My leather inner vision became an outer vision with the purchase of a
motorcycle. :-)
Anyway, while trying to decide what to wear to my father's wedding, I
remembered an inner vision I have had for years. As a child from about
10 onwards, whenever I pictured myself in my minds-eye, I was dress in
a knee-length gauzy cotton dress, pute white. It is a flowing dress
(which is blowing in the wind, blowing off the sea, because in my inner
vision I am standing on a beach at sunrise, facing out over the ocean),
of a very simple cut, peasant-like, and notted at the waist with a red
rope sash. I also have very long, silky hair, which is also blowing in
the wind.
I used to try to draw this image when I was a kid - it was the only
person image I ever tried to draw (I am not much of an artist.) I am
surprised I had forgotten about it.
I tried to find this dress for my father's wedding (I forgot that only
the bride is supposed to wear white) but couldn't find it anywhere. Any
suggestions? (The style seems very "granola", and all the stores I can
find would never carry something so unsophisticated. And no one wears
*white* anymore.)

| Gee, here in Colorado I can think of several stores. They are all the
sort that also sell exotic jewlery and counterculture type clothes. Don't
these exist on the east coast anymore? Places that sell South American
clothing also should have this sort of thing.
I got married in a Gunnysaks dress that was similar to what you
describe. They are often sold in department type stores. I could also
swear I've seen the scene you describe in some impressionist painting.
It seems very familiar. liesl
p.s. D! have you read a book by Ann Rice called The Gate to Eden (or
something like that?) The heroine ends up in a dress like that after
doffing her customary black leather. ;*)

most of the stores that carry counterculture type clothes in
new england only carry black.
or maybe i am thinking sub-culture.
but along the south american lines.....hey d!, maybe you could
check out Banana Republic or stores like that.

| Rt.27, Acton Mass. on the right just before one would cross over the bridge
to Maynard. There's usually a rack or stuff out front on the pavement, but
the selection inside is fairly extensive. I've found it to be substantially
less expensive than New Moon.
