experiences with dating services.

I'll go along with Ed on this one -- I've heard a lot of bad things and very
few good things. I've gotten some of the flyers in the mail, but I can't
believe that they're any better here in Nashua than they would be in Mass.
I just throw them out unopened.
It's not a *bad* idea, and who knows, perhaps someone *has* implemented it
correctly somewhere. I just haven't heard about it. ;-)

1054.4 | Policy, folks! Remember the policy. | DEMING::FOSTER | | Tue Mar 27 1990 22:45 | 5 |

PLEASE remember that Digital has new policies governing how we discuss
other businesses on the net. We are not allowed to comment negatively
on any business in an electronic bulletin board which the business
cannot access to defend itself, yet a large number of people can read.

1054.5 | Hi Sue! | GEMVAX::CICCOLINI | | Wed Mar 28 1990 17:14 | 12 |
| For the record, my roommate has just become engaged to a wonderful guy
she met through the singles notesfile. And it's free.
Watch Ann Landers' column. About a month ago, someone wrote in
complaining of seemingly deceptive practices by a dating service and
Ann suggested people start writing in with their experiences. This
particular woman paid over a thousand bucks to meet 3 guys, two of whom
were serious "losers". The third she liked and they began dating -
until she discovered he was married! So much for "screening". I expect
a column will be devoted to this topic in the near future and I
wouldn't be surprised if the "verdict" ends up more negative than
positive.

1054.6 | Personal Ads - cheaper + more effective | OLYMP::BENZ | Service(d) with a smile | Thu Mar 29 1990 10:08 | 16 |
| Over here (Switzerland) I would recommend a Personal Ad instead.
Getting dozens! of replies does wonders for your ego, and there are
pretty good people both writing and answering.
A good women friend of mine went to a dating service, and is now in
court with (against) them - indiscression and bad screening being the
problem.
But -- I dont know if the Personal Ad scene is similar in USA, i.e.
non-danger, little sleaze etc.

Heinrich

1054.7 | Dick Syatt's hotline | LYRIC::QUIRIY | Christine | Thu Mar 29 1990 14:08 | 8 |

Since you're in Southern New Hampshire, you could always give a listen
to Dick Syatt's "Hotline" on WRKO (680 AM) on Saturday mornings. It might
be on 11 to 2, I'm not sure. (It's a radio program where people call
up, describe themselves and who they're looking for, and what kind of a
relationship they're looking for.)
