1014.0. "Introductions: The People of Our Community" by ALIEN::POSTPISCHIL (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Thu Mar 08 1990 21:26

    I have for years requested that people not use titles denoting gender
    when referring to me (such as "Mr." or "Ms."), because I do not feel it
    is good that a person's gender be given such prominence, with that
    information being given even before their name or any other
    information.

    Therefore, this topic is for people to introduce themselves without
    declaring information which may be used to discriminate against
    themselves or other people.

1014.2I am ...ASDS::RSMITHFri Mar 09 1990 07:5412

    My name is Rachael Smith. I'm a software engineer in ASDS working on a
    networking project and I first came to Digital in Decamber 1989. (I
    came from a networking company.)
    I'm getting married in 6 weeks, so please excuse me if I reply
    strangely to notes in the near future. Also, my name will be changing,
    as I like the name Barlow better than Smith and I haven't published
    anything.

1014.3thanks for the gender-free introJURAN::TEASDALEFri Mar 09 1990 12:5611
    Nancy Teasdale, physicist-cum-artist, currently disguised as a Quality
    Engineer in SCIT, Hudson, MA. Trying to be aware of my own sexism.

    Figure I'll have had several careers before this is over--don't think
    I'll ever know what I want to be when I grow up. I hope there's room
    for the physicist, the statistician, playwright, photographer and
    photovoltaic engineer providing solar electricity to the Third World.

    Married to my best friend's son, Danny Carlson, by coincidence. The
    children will be hyphenated alphabetically to Carlson-Teasdale. I
    (secretly) love the idea that my name comes last.

    Digital's products as well as software functionality on the products
    that run on anything larger than a PC. :-) In other words, I'm sort
    of a Jack of all software, master of none. :-)

    I've been noting in _Wn_ for over two years and can also be found in
    Human_Relations, Friends, Parenting, etc, etc, etc...
