| (This is in large measure a "womens'" issue, as Digital has
displaced many secretarial and clerical workers, mostly women,
in favor of contract workers, who receive no benefits and can
be terminated with little or no trouble. And it relates to
982 in that they could 'covertly' read the open file, whereas
they wouldn't be in Elf so would almost certainly be excluded
from a closed file.)

| This is were I go for Contractor issues. This is taken from a list
I get by mail. Participation in there by contractors is pretty much
assumed to be ok. I don't recall a string on the subject.

| The P&P is silent on the matter, which typically means that good sense
is expected to apply.

as you can see by node name that i am a contractor and i have answered
notes before with no recourse from any direct people as long as i kept
it to be a very general subject or on the other hand a subject that
has alot personal feelings that i have had something in that matter
one that comes to mind was some lost a child or a relative i don't
remember exactly what it was but i have dealt with that problem
and i thought that my input might that person even just a little
but if contractors are considered to be that much of outsiders
by some i will not write in anymore but we do have opinions to and
some people might be able to benefit from our response so
before you cut us out completely maybe letting us write in through
the mods. and let them forwarded it in if they feel in benifical
but try not to cut us out completely as some of us read everyday
and do not right but learn alot from the opinions of the writers
i hope i haven't gotten anyone mad as that was not my intent

| I have been a contract worker here at Digital off and on for the
past 6 years. I have been quite steady for the past 3, and have
also been noting that long. If my manager has a problem with me
using notes than I'm sure I would have been told. Also, there is
a way that a block can be put on your account so that you cannot
access notes. I have heard of some contractors accounts being blocked.
My manager would prefer me being in notes looking busy than to be
on the phone.

There is much evidence that contract workers can and do NOTE in
both open and closed files. This has been going on for quite
some time in many different groups. I don't think "not being
in ELF" denies one access to the closed files. The rules of
the files say one has to abide by the rules of the file if you
are a member and also the rules of the open files require good
commonsense to partake in them.....which is the same for "real"
people as well as contractors.

986.8 | Let the contractors NOTE! | ULTRA::DWINELLS | | Fri Feb 16 1990 12:52 | 9 |
| I, for one, am truely grateful that contractors DO get to read/write in
NOTES files! I met Frank through Singles while he was contracting in
Northboro. We both feel that we would never have met, if it wasn't for
the Singles file. He was working third shift and I was on first. The
rest is history in the making as we met on Feb 9, 1989 and have been
living together for close to a year now.
Let the contrators NOTE!!!
